We were forced to evacuate our home after a fire and ended up staying at the Sandman hotel. The night the fire happened I really didn’t know what to do or how long we would need a place to stay. I was very frazzled trying to sort it all out. We settled in the Sandman and I have never been so happy with a choice I’ve had to make. The staff went out of their way to to ensure we had everything we needed both the night of the fire, and every day of the month we stayed there. We did not have a single issue at any point in which I can complain about. In fact, the staff went above and beyond for us. Lauren, specifically, made us feel so at home. Every morning I would wake up and stumble groggily to the lobby for coffee and every day if be greeted with a «good morning miss A. How are you today?» It was so nice to feel like we were cared enough about for her to take the time to learn my name. The first time I heard it, it caught me off guard because with a hotel that size, I never thought she’d know me personally. They gave us the executive suite with a private bedroom, living area and kitchenette. We specifically requested this as we knew that we would be here long term. However, we called around for rates and found that this suite was less expensive than a standard double at the Holiday Inn. Plus, the Sandman is pet friendly which was important to us. The hotel is attached to Chop and Denny’s and has a pool, hot tub and gym. Not sure when we’ll have to stay at a hotel in our own city again, but if we had to, this is the hotel we will stay at. No question about it. I wouldn’t even think twice on this one.

If this is what a Sandman is supposed to be like, I’m in! If you follow my reviews, I’ve mentioned I stay in a great number of Hampton Inn and Holiday Inn Express hotels. Sandman is a newer brand for me. But being a truly Canadian hotel chain, I wanted to support them in Western Canada. If you read my review of the Saskatoon Sandman, I didn’t not have a great experience. The Winnipeg location is a complete 180! It’s actually funny as I say that as I’m in a hotel with a similar layout, in fact, I’m on the same floor level, just directly across from the elevator instead of beside it. This room is almost the same size as Saskatoon but everything is new and upgraded. From the pot lights above the bed to the super cozy pillow top bed and modern bathroom, this hotel is great. My stay started off with a very pleasant shuttle driver who doubles as a front desk rep and full time business student. LOL. The front foyer was modern and clean with a style similar to what I would expect from the other chains. CHOP and Denny’s restaurants are attached to the hotel and easily accessible. Overall I have enjoyed my stay and am really pleased by the high level of customer service! Saskatoon needs to take some notes from Winnipeg!
