We came here 2 nights while in Cancun. The ambiance is awesome, the food was great, the entertainment was great, and the service was good. Think — your classic mexican restaurant in your hometown, but much nicer, with a live(and VERY talented) mariachi band — but be sure you tip them if you have them play for your table! My husband and I split the Mexican Snack plate for the appetizer. It included a flavorful spread of what was to come. No matter what you order here, I highly recommend that to start. We also had the Duck Enchiladas which were incredibly tasty. I’m telling you, the food was wonderful, give it a go! Oh, and their maragritas are HUGE!

This place was great. So many places here in Cancun were crap but the hacienda was pretty legit mexican food. It’s a really good choice and the service was great. The mariachis were great too. Not too expensive too. The decorations were perfect. I was really surprised I liked it so much.

Been coming here for at least 20 years, great food great fun. Mariachi band the best, same folks the whole time. Great for kids and the margaritas are awesome. Love how the folks make fun of the people that ask for«LA bamba» to be played. Our first stop in Cancun for over twenty years! Tip the mariachi band generously!

This place sucks, had the mixed fajitas last night. Chicken was rough, chips were stale and the service was so slow I had to ask for my check and to run my card multiple times. They cater more to big parties… you can do better anwhere else.

I came here on my birthday :(. I still had a nice birthday but not a great dinner. We saw reviews on trip advisor for 4.5 stars I wish I was able to get service and go on Unilocal or I would have avoided this place. First I ordered a frozen strawberry margarita it wasn’t good so I said I wanted a regular margarita and he brought it on the rocks :(. I wanted it frozen but I drank it, it was better than the last one. In the pictures we saw bright colors happy people and mariachi. That’s hardly what we got. It was really dark in there, our waiter seemed miserable and he barley spoke English. The mariachi band was the worst I’ve ever seen. Aren’t they supposed to be smiling and happy? These guys were miserable with absolutely no expression on their face whatsoever. I thought it was a joke. We ordered a Mexican sampler everything was horrible except the guacamole, we should of just got guacamole. The steak fajitas were different but they were good(without cactus and beans) they sung happy birthday to me with a piece of cake when my meal arrived. It was really awkward. The mariachi didn’t seem like they even wanted to sing happy birthday or be there at all. Than I blew out a candle and they took the dessert away, left it on a table until we were done and brought it back. The dessert was complimentary and it was good! Very small though. When we got the bill it said 87 u. s dollars on top. I bought it into a converter app I downloaded.(This is a must to have) and it was only 67 dollars and the guy was tipping himself 20 dollars!!! When he was horrible! I’m all about giving good tips when deserved especially because I’m a server but he tried to tip himself about 30% and was sneaky about it. He made it like that was the bill and the tip wasn’t included. We paid that maybe $ 1 less because we didn’t want a problem but we told him we knew what he was doing. Be careful they’re sneaky as hell.

Not sure why such bad reviews on the place but the wife and I loved this place both times we ate in 6 year span. We went again tonight and very much enjoyed our meal. I ordered the shrimp fajitas and she ordered the beef tacos both of which tasted fresh and authentic to Mexican food that we enjoy. I really enjoyed the cactus that was mixed with my grilled onions and peppers, it added a great flavor I really liked. My only issue with this place since I’m not part of their all inclusive since I’m not staying at the Krystal is the conversion rate is not listed and I asked my waiter if it was 14-$ 1 and he said yes but then miss calculated the total based off of the total I came up with. I would prefer if they automatically did the math on the check for you so you don’t feel like your being taken advantage of the way I felt a little bit. Other then that they have a great band playing awesome music and the food is very tasty. We will be back but before I order next time I will ask prior to ordering about the conversion rate.

I came here while staying at the Krystal Hotel next door since it was part of the all inclusive option. The food was not cooked properly, I had medium rare and my sister had well done, and neither of our food was cooked properly. The drinks were just ok. The service was SLOW and overall, I would have preferred eating at the italian restaurant in the hotel. The only reason this place gets 2 stars is the chicken and lime soup was delicious and the Mariachi band was so much fun and had great voices. Plus, they stop by every table and take your request. La Bamba is amazing. Otherwise, skip this place for sure.

I’m leaving a 2 star for this restaurant. We had never had a problem walking into a restaurant without reservations and they will still make an Effort to accommodate us. We’re from San Diego, even in the most expensive restaurants like Ruth Chris, Flemings, Ocean Air etc… They will still make an effort to accommodate you without a reservation. We decided to have dinner at the Hacienda el Mortero on a Friday night at 8pm and were told that they were booked and had no more open tables but they would take a reservation for Saturday the next day if we like. We were so shocked to be turned away without a choice of waiting for a table to open up. We decided to walk 3 blocks back to our resort and have the concierge call the restaurant and she told us that we didn’t need reservations, but to hold on and she would call the restaurant to make reservations for us. We had reservations within 5 minutes. We went back and showed the reservation ticket, the guys face that turned us down not even 10 min ago was priceless. The name of the door man was«MAURICIO» who turned business down in a restaurant!.. Especially in Mexico! We are a good clean cut and good looking couple well dressed. It was shocking and disrespectful of the guy named Mauricio to turn us down with out even looking for available table, maybe just lazy? My advice to the management, give Mauricio a rundown and make sure people who come to dinner should be served. Mauricio is costing the restaurant to lose money.

Food very overpriced, with less than generous portions. Our waiter was not at all friendly. He threw a basket of chips at us and did not return once to check on our meal. He told my friend(who has a gluten allergy) that her meal included corn tortillas, but the meal came with wheat tortillas, so she had to send it back. We ordered chicken fajitas, enchiladas, and vegetarian tacos — all mediocre, especially considering the price. Spend your money elsewhere — we had a much better meal and more pleasant service at Mextreme.

Atmosphere and décor are excellent… margaritas are very generous. However service is slow and food is very average. We had the cactus salad that had so much vinegar we couldn’t eat it and the rib eye tacos. Meat was way over cooked and had bits of inedible pieces in it. Live Mariachi band was great though.

The food is nothing great relative to the price being charged, I would pick one of the other highly rated Mexican places. Our service was slow and they got my dish wrong which meant I had to wait another 20 mins for my food while my family are theirs.
