I passed this place multiple times on my visit without going in, because it looked mainly like a bar from the street. But my first impressions were wrong. On the night we finally decided to head in and try this spot, we were immediately glad we did. It turns out Viva Zapata is a well priced, simple spot offering some of the freshest seafood in all of Holbox. It was the only dinner we ate in town that included both tourists and locals in the dining room. We had a good meal with excellent seafood. Highlights included the shrimp fajitas with homemade tortillas, the mixed seafood plate, solid fish tacos and some of the best ceviche we had all week. Kid-friendly(there is a little kids games area) outdoor seating, some thoughtful free starters(chips, good salsa and some spicy vegetables to dip chips into) and good seafood. They have cocktails, and beer and wine. The cocktails were a-okay –I ordered a margarita with good tequila, it was really too sweet. In all though, a very solid little spot.

Absolutely brilliant place. Great Ceviche, Guac is fantastic. Entire menu is brilliant. Great cocktails. Friendly staff. Kids play area. What more could you ask for. Pretty reasonable prices as well. Slightly more than other places, but the whole package is that much better.

Recommended by our hotelier. Best mixed ceviche EVER. Shrimp skewers were ok. Grilled veg was mostly onions. That’s alright. I love onions. Decent prices. Good staff. Nice music. Romantic atmosphere.

I love getting guacamole and ceviche here! Very good drinks as well! I drank several pina coladas which were delicious. My wife loved her caipirinia(spelling?) too!

This place was so good, that we ended up here twice on our visit to Holbox(also, locals told us it was the best place in town during the October season). The first night, there was a group of 9 of us. However, 5 went off shopping while only 4 of us sat. Restaurant was great about letting us hold our table. The second night, there were 4 of us. Both times we were seated immediately. Drinks: We started with the Sangrias. It was so refreshing that many in our group opted for the same thing. The next night, I stuck with Margaritas which were standard. Food: Queso Fundido(we added bacon): Inhaled. BUT, who doesn’t love melted cheese. Nachos w/Steak: Inhaled. I highly recommend the catch of the day. Many fisherman on the island, so grab what’s fresh. When I went to place my order for an entrée, server brought out 2 huge fresh lobsters and asked if I wanted one of them. I grabbed the 1 pounder, had them grill it and it was Delicious. Hubby totally regretted not having it after he took a bite.(He ordered steak tacos and didn’t like them). Thus, ORDER the FRESHCATCH of the day. Viva Zapata Pasta w/Lobster. The second night, hubby and I ordered this one. The creamy sauce is a bit spicy and the lobster is fresh, so its an Excellent dish. Finally, servers were friendly, but it slowed down a bit when things got busy. Also, Live Music both nights(man & his guitar). Great vibe & food.

This was one of our favorite restaurant/bars to hang out in while we were vacationing on Holbox. The food is fresh and delicious – if you like spicy you have to try their homemade habanero sauce – and the people working there were lovely! Arlen who works the bar in the afternoon is the coolest woman! Kept us in the loop of where to go and what to eat. Next door is an amazing jewelry shop that’s open from 5pm-9pm and I bought a beautiful bracelet there. Definitely not one to miss.

The best grilled fish I ever had. It was caught in the morning and by noon it was in the restaurant. It just can’t get more fresh then that.

We ordered the guacamole and it was HUGE! Very delicious and with homemade chips. We also ordered a vegetarian pasta(also huge and delicious!) and fish tacos(also delicious and plentiful!). Great ambiance, excellent service and quick to bring out our food. All seating is outdoors but they have a covered patio w fans. We sat in the front section of the restaurant because our waiter said in the back garden there are mosquitoes. We didn’t have any issues with mosquitoes up front! Our bill was a bit pricier than I would’ve expected, but overall very great food and dining experience! Here is a nice write up from lonely planet also:
