We were determined to avoid tourist traps while on our trip to Mujeres but may have diverted from our path way too far. I found this place simply by walking by it nearly everyday and observing the lines out the door and around the corner. I thought to myself, «this place MUST be amazing! We have to try it!» And we did, to my dismay. Unfortunately, we found out that it was just simply a no frills local diner with paper thin, dry pieces of meat on a platter with a mess of other stuff. My plate, the combination flank steak came with the following: chips and guac, an enchilada, a quesadilla, 2 pieces of dry jerky-like flank, a salad, a bed of rice, and a bunch of fries thrown on top. I hate to say that none of the items tasted well made. The chips and fries tasted old and refried about 5x, the steak was so dry it actually tasted like jerky(took me awhile to chew and swallow), and the enchilada just looked sad. It was downright barely edible. Our other plate was the famous poc chuc plate, which featured another thin, super dry cut of meat(pork) that was also offensively salty. We looked around and the other guests appeared to be mostly local. It’s too bad, I really wanted to love this place considering its popularity with locals and the excellent, gracious service. The bill came out to 200 pesos(about $ 10USD) which is incredibly cheap, but may explain why the food needs some major help.

This is a great cheap eats spot in Centro. The two of us had huevos rancheros, coffee, orange juice, along with tortilla for only 165 pesos(about $ 10US). It was definitely the most inexpensive meal we had on the island. The restaurant is typical Mexican with plastic chairs and table clothes, food isn’t fancy but delicious nonetheless and the staff is nice and friendly

Fish tacos were mediocre, so was the salad. Not that I should be ordering salad somewhere named Pork Chop. Ceviche tasted clean. But later on heard you are supposed to get mole here. Otherwise avoid.

Really good breakfast spot. orange juice is amazing, along with their banana french toast. One of our favorite spots if we don’t want to spend too much on our meal. I also really liked the vegetarian omelette.

On our last full day on the island we knew we wanted to rent a golf cart and see the island. We figured we get breakfast in town beforehand so we asked our taxi driver to take us somewhere cheap and delicious! We tend to stay away from the tourist traps and enjoy more local spots so he totally delivered here. The food was definitely cheap, ~$ 5 each for our meals, and boy was it good! Definitely authentic with hot sauces on the side for your taste. Steven had a fried egg dish with ham, rice and plantains. I had a chicken tortilla dish smothered in sauce that was similar to nachos? and I asked for them to include 2 scrambled eggs in the mix. Yum! It’s a hole in the wall for sure so keep that in mind before eating here. There’s only about 7 tables and in typical Mexican fashion there is no A/C. A tiny lady in the back cooks all the food and you’ll feel like you’re in grandma’s kitchen. Food was cheap, quick, large portions and best of all delicious!
