Las tostadas de atún, son wow!!! El pulpo es impresionante, emociona su sabor. El lugar es cómodo. Precio-calidad muy bien.

This place is solid. Came here for lunch. Fast, great service. English menu/speaking waiters if you need them. Tostadas de atun are very good. So are the sides(those pickled onions and avocado salsa). Will come here again if we’re back in the CDMX.

Delicious, and I’m vegetarian. I went several years ago and my travel buddy went on and on about the amazing fresh catch … it was so good that we ate here 2x while in-town. It’s a classy casual setting, fantastic service.

Delicious, but pricy. Not saying it’s not worth it, but I come from the coast and some prices frankly seem ridiculous. Staff is kind, maybe a bit over the top, but I’d rather have that than they keep me waiting! Tables are perfectly set. I mean, the place is close to perfect, but again prices are a way of keeping certain people out and that just seems rude to me. Good food should be for everyone! If you’re not bothered by overpaying a bit, this place is the best. I’ll say it again, food is awesome!

Ok, it’s been nine years since my last review… I’m now forty, Prince and Bowie are gone, Unilocal has survived and I continue to rely on it heavily. As a reward after my slump, I wanted to share the amazing tostadas de atún(tuna tostadas) at Contramar. The fresh, thinly sliced tuna over the light crispy tostadas and chipotle aioli, sprinkled with fried leeks definitely live up to the hype. The tacos de pescado al pastor are another hit, with charred bits of fish mimicking al pastor, better than most pork versions. The loud, bustlin’ vibe seems non-stop here, and you’ll see a constant flow of young, hip locals vying for an afternoon seafood snack, as well as visitors flocking to get a taste. Contramar was the restaurant that everyone in DF said I MUST go to… well, they were right! I was here about a week ago, and still vividly remember my delicious meal. The tuna tostadas are to die for, and the tequila shrimp were cooked perfectly. It is located in the La Condesa neighborhood of CDMX, which had a buzzing ambiance and upbeat energy. My waitstaff were very attentive and provided friendly service. I will definitely go back next time I am in Mexico City!

Go here. There is no reason not to. The octopus and fish fillet are some of the best I have ever had in my life! About 1,200MXN total for 500g of each. Served with excellent salsas, tortillas, and mashed pinto beans. The waiters, pretty much all of them, did adjust almost every item on our table every time they walked by though. That got annoying after the literal 20th time. Happened about every 5 minutes. It started feeling like they wanted us to leave the restaurant since they would be closing in 30 minutes, but I seemed to be targeted as they didn’t bother doing this to any of the other tables. Regardless, I guess that can be considered good service to some, and they weren’t outright rude; just adjusted everything to perfection over 20 times.

Extremely expensive for what you get. The shrimp tacos were good, the octopus was a bit slimy(but the potatoes with it were very tasty), and our fish dish was slightly dry. The saving grace was the(recommended by many) fig tart which was very good. Personally I’d skip it if you’re in CDMX. It was one of our least-favorite meals while we were there and was priced similarly to some of the best.

It’s definitely a must to go place if you are in CDMX. We got here 16hs on a Friday and place was packed ! We wait for 20 minutes and got our table. The place was loud, but who cares… We came for the food ! Lol As other Unilocalers suggested, we got Tunas/Fish tostadas and the ½ pound grilled fish. And finished with Fig and Strawberry/merengue desert. Yummmm ! You can go wrong ! Delicious ! Service was great even being that busy.

This was my favorite restaurant out of the few we went to in Mexico City. It definitely has an upscale feel without you feeling like you need to dress formal or pay a formal price tag. It was located in a trendy, hip neighborhood, and I did not feel uncomfortable walking around with two other young females at night. I had the fish carnitas and they were great! This particular dish came with large potions, I couldn’t even finish it. The wait staff was very attentive and spoke very good English(for those of you traveling from out of town). Also, the waiter was walking by holding a dish that we inquired about, and he ended up giving it to us so we could try it, and he didn’t even charge us for it!(The tuna tostado, highly recommend!) We ordered two sangrias, a lemonade, and four plates and it was still only about $ 20 a person for three people, which is a pretty good steal for something as nice as Contramar. I would definitely go back if I was ever back in this area.

Visited: December, 2015. Fun restaurant to visit in Mexico City. My partner and I, along with a Mexican friend, visited for a relaxed luncheon experience. We were the earliest table(12:30 p.m. reservation), and this was good because the restaurant slowly but surely picked-up and was completely packed by the time we were almost finished. The noise level rose as well, so, if you like it quieter, go early, you’ve been warned… The seafood-focused menu features many items to choose from, our favourites being the tuna tostadas to begin with, and the whole fish grilled«contramar» to share. Service was O.K., certainly not polished. Many Mexican wines were listed, but, for a change we decided to try an Uruguayan Sauvignon Blanc and vino tinto(please see my pictures). Definitely recommendable. Reservation required.

Sometimes spontaneity is on your side. Ran into this place last minute while we were searching for another restaurant(which was closed upon our arrival). So happy we found this place. That tuna tostada is sublime. Not to mentioned superb services. Our waiter told us to come back and try their other adobe/parsley fish(which they had ran out). The finale of this dining experience was the desert; coconut flan(so good).

We had an amazing meal here. Very relaxed and casual. Despite its broad popularity, it feels like a neighborhood restaurant. Very large with sidewalk seating as well. Great attentive service. The server did his best to converser in english. We had a very late(5pm) reservation and they were sold out of the whole fish(a specialty of the house). We needed up with shrimp in tequila sauce which were AMAZING! Far more like langoustines than shrimp.

This afternoon my wife and I went out for lunch at Contramar. We’d heard great things about this place for some time now, but just never got around to trying it. As it turned out, our food was quite tasty. I had the tuna tostadas that a number of other people have posted about. I really like tostadas, and these were some of the best that I’ve had. My wife really liked her seafood soup as well. However, I found the atmosphere to be a little pretentious. Most of the patrons were acting high and mighty, and the staff were acting subservient. Also, while the food was good, it wasn’t particularly original, and as a result it was overpriced. Anyway, enjoy!

I spent Memorial Day wknd in Mexico City and as much as I tried to prepare myself to not eat everything in sight, my plan failed miserably. The food is just so good. Contramar is no exception. Having had a delicious but super filling brunch at Azul Historico earlier in the day, my friend and I only had room for a snack later that evening, so we ordered the tuna tostadas. Oh boy. They were incredible. I’m not a huge tuna eater but that all changed once I landed in DF. The fish is so fresh and the flavors and marination of everything together is perfection. The place itself is trendy; lots of fun people watching. Super nice waiters. Nice ambience.

Tourist central. I got the famous tuna tostada. The tuna was kind of too mushy, y’all. Grilled jackfish in salsa verde was a bit overcooked and I hated the beans but I enjoyed the seaweed on the side. The best part of the meal was the fig tart. It was rustic and sooo fresh and creamy. Dishes are meant to be shared so it wasn’t ideal that I came alone. Ended up eating too much, obviously. Service is extremely prompt.

My favorite seafood tacos in CDMX. I love this place, a one-way ticket to tasty town for sure. The seafood here is so great. The fish pastor, the octopus, the shrimp. LALALA. I’d recommend getting a bunch of proteins /taco fillings to share with the group because everything is awesome. The service is great, and they are accommodating for groups. Gets pretty crowded around brunch/lunch on weekends, but worth it.

Delicious food that was pricier than we thought! The atmosphere was interesting because my friends ans I got there and it was empty, but then a bunch of businessman came in during the lunch rush and it quickly filled up! That said, you don’t need to dress up for it, but it was weird walking around in shorts while people were in suits. Contramar was great because the staff spoke English and had an English menu. The English menu actually didn’t have a list of specials like the Spanish menu did, but luckily my Spanish speaking friends were with me! First of all, get a margarita. It’s delicious and simply made with tequila, sugar, lime, and a bit of salt just like a margarita should be! As for food, we got the tuna sashimi(definitely get this), the albondigas(meatballs made out of fish), and tacos al pastor. The tacos were good but get a better bang for your buck by getting street tacos. The albondigas were delicious and I recommend getting a plate to share with friends. We splurged even further by getting a fig tart and an apple pastry topped with vanilla ice cream. Both were delicious but the apple pie with ice cream really brought this place to a higher level for me!

Probably the finest seafood in Mexico City, in a semi-casual setting. Tuna tostadas for appetizer 5+/5 perfect! Octopus 4/5, octopus perfectly cooked — sauce was a bit sweet? Tuna sashimi 6⁄5. Imagine the best quality tuna from your favorite sushi… but dressed with a perfect Mexican sauce… DELICIOUS! Huachinango fish in Adobe and cilantro(green and red) 5+/5 The adobe is a 6⁄5 The cilantro is a lot less flavorful 4⁄5(I love cilantro, so it was not that, it just cant compete with the super flavorful adobe sauce) Guac and frijoles, simple but good! Sauces 5⁄5 Desserts 5⁄5 Simple nutella flan 5⁄5(not too sweet), chocolate cake 4/5, coconut pie 5⁄5. Service 5+/5EXCEPTIONAL. They even change the linen for dessert. We werent cheap, oredered a lot — but no alcohol — always a good thing when you get good service in an expensive restaurant and you did not order any alcohol!!! Make reservations and be patient… you will not regret coming here. Do be prepared to pay for what you eat… you order expensive seafood, you should expect a big bill. Not pretentious considering you will be eating next to Mexicos elite(who know were to eat great seafood…) I only wish San Diego had this kind of seafood restaurant. The Hake(Tuna tacos, but can be a hit or miss) and Puesto(the Tuna and Lobster tacos, good Guac, excellent Margarita) of course, at a lower price point… are Some of SD’s places for a similiar experience. Contramar has been around for 16 years — and for a good reason. The food is as good as it gets P-E-R-I-O-D!

Contramar serves up a lot of well cooked seafood in a trendy setting for reasonable prices.(I write this as someone who isn’t calibrated on food costs in Mexico City.) Pickles(onions, carrots, peppers, garlic), green salsa, chips, and bread were brought to the table free of charge as soon as we sat down. We shared the following among 4 people and were happily full. * Tuna tostada — 189 pesos: The best thing we had! The crispy leeks were delightful. 4 pieces per order. * Tacos with fish al pastor style — 205 pesos: A little too charred for my taste, but the addition of lime helped a lot. 4 pieces per order * Contramar ceviche — 135 pesos * Pulpo Galician style — 225 pesos * Whole grilled butterflied fish, Contramar style(½ red chili adobo, ½ parsley rub) — 269 pesos per 500g: The 1.3kg fish was brought to the table and shown to us before it was cooked. It was served with warm tortillas and black beans. The fish was flaky and tender. * 2L of sangria — 266 pesos: The sangria was bursting with fruit flavor. A bit too syrupy towards the bottom. It looked like they use canned fruit cocktails for the sangria. I was impressed with how quickly everything came out. The service was impeccable too. I really liked the light fixtures and the wall art, which consisted abstract representations of fish and shrimp against bold red and blue backgrounds. The dining area opened onto the sidewalk, with outdoor tables available as well. The restaurant was extremely busy. We waited 20 minutes for a table around 5pm. People were sitting down to eat up until 6pm, although the restaurant supposedly closes at 6:30pm.

Had an early dinner at Contramar. Most restaurants close early on Sundays in Mexico City so we headed over to Contramar at 5(before closing time at 6:30 pm) and did not wait long to get a table. Although there was a line, the restaurant is huge and can fit many people. The tuna tostada was out of this world. I knew it was their specialty but honestly I wish I had forgone all the other things we ordered and just gotten multiple plates of the tuna tostadas. They were perfect — the fish was fresh and flavorful, the mayo slightly spicy, the leeks crunchy and the tostada crisp. Fantastic! Next we tried the arroz negro(my second favorite, this was rice and squid cooked in squid ink… very rich and tasty), the Pulpo(octopus…good but not memorable), and the smelt tacos. The little smelt fish tasted much fishier and saltier than I expected. Next time I would like to get mounds of tuna tostadas and perhaps try some different tacos. Perhaps we just ordered wrong. Service was good. The waitstaff was friendly and brought us menus in both English and Spanish. However, service was FAST. This was fine as we were not particularly in a leisurely mood but wow all the food came at once and as soon as we were done, they came around with dessert and then the check. Out in under an hour!

Se llega temprano intentando evitar la multitud. Ambiente cantinero-condechi. Muuuuucho wannabe. Decoracion simplista. Carisimo. Muy fresa. Nada elegante o refinado.

Contramar is the definition of a killer classic restaurant. They know exactly what to do to play into their strengths(seafood, service) and consistently deliver a top level experience that has guests returning again and again over the years. I loved it. The tuna tostada is a legend for a reason. The rich tuna, the bracing acidity of citrus and pickle. We also had delicious whole steamed fish, super fresh, perfectly prepared, falling off the bone. We arrived just as they opened to a mostly empty dining room; by the time this fish appeared the entire room was full and buzzing. Desserts were fantastic: I love when a restaurant pulls off sweet and savory with equal skill. The strawberry and meringue dessert harkened to a schaum torte from Wisconsin. The fig tart was absurd, and the banana cream pie was gone before any photographic evidence could be gathered. After espresso, I briefly used the washroom. Returning from the facility, the waitstaff had not only completely cleared the table our large group had used, they disassembled it and were carrying pieces of tabletop over their heads out to the patio. Some of the most on point service I have ever seen. Bravo Contramar.
