We ate at El Caguamo twice during our 12-day stay in Mexico City, once for breakfast! That’s how good it is. The service at El Caguamo was quick and friendly, and once we were even given a free cup of spicy seafood soup to sample with our tostadas. We tried a shrimp tostada with mayonnaise, a crab tostada, ceviche, and an empanada. The crab tostada was one of the best things we ate in Mexico City on this trip. The ceviche was tangy and fresh, the tostadas were crisp and hot, and there was a great selection of hot sauce toppings to choose from. I thought that the shrimp and mayonnaise tostada sounded like a strange combination, but it was amazing. The pulpo also seemed to be extremely popular, but we didn’t try it ourselves. I took off a star because the shrimp and cheese empanada, unlike everything else, was stale and cold; we didn’t finish it. Everything else, however, was perfect. I notice that another reviewer had an excellent empanada at 10am, and we ordered ours in the evening. They must be fresh first thing in the morning! We will definitely be back here in the future.

At 10AM I am usually having a sweet treat and black coffee, but on a food tour in Mexico City with EATMEXICO, we came to El Caguamo at this hour. I don’t regret it at all(and thankfully had already had coffee!) The empanadas with shrimp and cheese were unreal, so soft and lightly sweet.

Si andas haciendo mandados por el Centro, una de tus mejores opciones es comer en la marisquería el Caguamo ubicada en la esquina de Ayuntamiento y López al lado de una cafetería. Lo descubrí cuándo estaba viviendo cerca del Mercado de San Juan y casi nunca falla. Las tostadas de ceviche son muy buenas pero lo que más me gusta pedir es el empapelado; una sopa/guisado envuelto en papel aluminio que contiene pescado y una variedad de mariscos, caldo y epazote. Después de andar corriendo por el Centro, es algo que siempre me restaura la energía. El caldo de camarón también está delicioso y sin duda cae bien para la cruda. Para los que se preocupen por comer en la calle, les aseguro que el lugar es sumamente limpio y es tan popular que la comida no se queda afuera por mucho tiempo(y los mariscos están sobre hielo).
