Open late until 2 or 3 am. The pineapple makes the el pastor soooo good. You can easily eat 4, no problem. They are small but savory and the best after a night out. We are from Chula Vista and we absolutely love the tender charred flavor.

The tacos al pastor are worth the hype! It was a super rainy day in DF and we got a large order to go. They gave us a choice of salsas, some tasty chips, guacamole, cebollitas and plenty of limes! These were definitely some of the best tacos I tasted while in Mexico City.

This is my favorite pastor taco in the city. It’s perfectly seasoned, with the right amount of pineapple and cilantro. I usually stick with the original. I tried the pastor gringo and didn’t care for it as it has a flour tortilla. They bring you a nice selection of sauces, refried beans, and chips to accompany your tacos. The tacos are small so I usually eat 3 – 4. They have multiple locations throughout the city, but this is the only one I have tried.

When a good friend of mine found out I was in Mexico City, he recommended coming here so he could live vicariously through me. The location was only a short walk away. The streets reminded us of Barcelona and even some of the areas in New York City where there’s a number of apartments and condos, and some restaurants at the street level. This location is small and cozy. We sat inside where it was warm. The climate is cooler than San Diego at this time… felt more like San Francisco weather. Our server, Miguel Angel, was very friendly and told us the history of El Tizoncito and the creation of the tacos al pastor. Since it was our first time, he recommended the original pork tacos… MA: People order maybe three and then end up eating 10 or more We ordered 5 each to start and a couple of Modelos. Very tasty tacos! Just the right amount of meat, onions, cilantro, and pineapple… the flavors complimented each other very well. There were four kinds of hot sauces and even though he said two of them were milder, I thought the red one was spicy… yes, I’m a wimp. We ended up ordering three more each. They also serve other items on their quite extensive menu. We would definitely be back for one more visit and try some of the other popular items like the huaraches. This is a really inexpensive place to eat. No frills, just good local cooking. They have a number of locations now and one of the cooks has been with the company since they started in 1966. Pretty cool!

Our favorite taco place. You’re not gonna have any major revelations here(for that I recommend the lamb tacos at Manolito’s in Napoles) but it’s consistently delicious and fresh with good, quick service. I’ve tried a bunch of stuff on the menu but keep coming back to their invention(allegedly), the al Pastor, w/o pineapple but with plenty of lime squeezed on top. Guacamole is especially good here too. Campeche locations seem interchangeable(I’ve been to each at least a dozen times). Both are clean, comfortable and great for Condesa people watching.

We had the tacos al pastor along with an order of alambre and a quesadilla de nortenas. Pretty average tacos al pastor for a place that claims it invented it. Actually I thought they lacked meat — cheap, edible, but not extraordinary. The alambre was fine as was the quesadilla but again nothing special. When we posted are displeasure on a social media site, we were told by our friends that we should be heading over to La Flama! Not an area we most likely will visit but if we do we will.

I love tacos al pastor like I’d love my own children, if I had any. Our Airbnb accommodations were right up the street and knowing that El Tizoncito claims to be the birthplace of al pastor, we had to stop in. We were there at a little bit of a weird time, as the staff seemed to all be having their lunch, but we were seated at a table outside, anyway. Of course we got the al pastor and yes, they were good. That and a nice cold cerveza and we were happy campers.

The menus of this restaurant claim that it is the birthplace of tacos al pastor, which is a bit like a restaurant claiming that it invented chicken noodle soup, but who can say? They do have an excellent selection of tacos, alambres, and other tortilla-wrapped items. They also bring out chips and various salsas of varying degrees of spiciness. While I was there, the wait staff was very attentive and solicitous, which is a bit out of the ordinary for a DF restaurant, where you normally have to flag down a waiter for anything that you need. They even handed me my umbrella when I was getting ready to leave. I ordered an alambre and a beer. The alambre was about 60 pesos or so, and it involved two tortillas filled with meats, cheese, onions, and peppers. They were hot and delicious, and big enough that I was able to pour all of the aforementioned five sauces onto various segments of the alambre. Is this the standard alambre protocol? I don’t know, but it worked for me. I give it 5 stars for being exactly what I needed on a cold, rainy evening.

My colleague and I had just arrived in Mexico City and we were craving some good Mexican food. We walked around Condesa rather aimlessly… looking at the menus of various restaurants, but none of them really tickled our faste buds. Until we saw this rather dingy-looking tacos place… I love dingy and to me it was literally screaming«hole-in-the-wall-goodness» from every window. My enthusiasm quickly infected my colleague and soon we were seated at a table and a waiter was already bringing two beers as well as a tray of chips and salsa. Yummy! To take the guess-work away from the ordering process, we entrusted the waiter to bring us some good food. He scribbled down a few notes and soon re-appeared with a selection of tacos… and let me tell you: they were delicious! It was only on the next day that we found out what gem we had run into: the birth place of the Taco al Pastor! According to Steet Gourmet LA «The El Tizoncito in Condessa was started by Dona Conchita in 1966 along with her sons. The vertical spit had been brought to Mexico by Lebanese immigrants for cooking shwarma, and at some point Mexicans adopted the cooking device for their own purposes. This evolution took place in the part of Mexico where the Lebanese settled, in DF, Puebla, and the Yucatan, and probably involved several phases, but El Tizoncito was the first to put tacos al pastor in their current form on the map. Not to be confused with the original cabrito al pastor from Nuevo Leon(whole butterflied roasted kid), tacos al pastor are made with pork marinaded in a rub of chiles, spices, and citrus.»( ) Nowadays, El Tizconcito is a smallish-mediumish local chain with restaurants all over Mexico City. Nevertheless, it seems like they’ve stayed true to their roots… I recommend!
