The Venue & Service are 4 – 5 Stars.
The food is mediocre (3 stars), particularly the steaks. This is supermarket grade Select beef. Not Prime. Not even Choice. Prepare to be disappointed if you’re used to eating a American steakhouses like Ruth Chris, III Forks, Sullivan’s, Morton’s, Vic & Anthony’s, Capitol Grille, Del Frisco’s, etc.
This isn’t even Saltgrass Strakhouse quality meat. More like Chili’s.
Now you’re mentally prepared to enjoy Sur Steakhouse!

Well let’s start by saying location is outstanding. Great people watching from the corner of 10^th and 5^th. Waiter was outstanding. I had a Cabernet that was very good for the money. I ordered the large filet at medium well. It came out rare. They took it back and tried to cook it a little more but they couldn’t get it right. Overall very nice calm, laid back experience

Go for a drink and give the food a miss. Terrible steaks, go to Harry’s for a steak: beautiful bar, nice drinks and service so go to have a drink before or after dinner elsewhere

We Walked by this place for two weeks thinking it was on 5^th ave it had to be over priced and under performing. What a surprise a first class experience. The hostess was very accommodating sitting us out of the wind on a very windy night. Then Armando took over and his recommendations were spot on from the appetizer thru the entrée. Elmer was there working the table like an invisible magician in concert with Armando. Go here enjoy great food and an awesome staff. Demand Armando and Elmer and gladly Hand them your hard earned money knowing they earned it equally. Bravo gentleman bravo!!!

10 stars for the service and 5 stars for the food. Our wait staff here is top notch. Professional, knowledgeable, attentive and extremely accommodating. Everything was amazing. We’ve eaten here 3 out of our 5 nights in playa Del Carmen. Partly because my boss is a creature of habit and partly because there’s not many places that can beat this.
I recommend the beef empanadas and the oysters were also fantastic. For my third meal here i finally ordered the filet and they cooked it exactly how I requested. Also highly recommended.
I wasn’t the biggest fan of their stuffed chicken dish (last one on the list) I can’t remember what it’s called but I think that’s more my personal taste.

Might have been the only one who didn’t like their food. Cool atmosphere. Service was a little above average. I had salad. Others had fish and steak. The sushi tasted good as an appetizer.

Terrible steak at a steakhouse. Would not recommend. We ordered the cowboy (ribeye with bone attached). First it came out well done when we ordered medium rare. Then they redid it and it came out pretty raw. The worst part: the meat is so chewy and the knife is so dull that each bite was a struggle to cut and eat.
Ambience is nice but I would not recommend for the food. The octopus was meaty and nothing special. The priorat for $ 70was overpriced (wines in Mexico in general are quite expensive.) I would in general stick with the lower end ones since the higher end ones are not so much better.
The service staff was there to please — but not enough to make up for the worst meal that we had here at playa del Carmen.

Love this place, great food, beautiful ambience, indoor or outdoor seating, the help is very very attentive.
Our server Armando was awesome, very personable.
When in PLAYA you must try this place, you won’t be disappointed.

Came here for dinner last minute called about 1 hour before arriving with 12 girls and they were able to accommodate us all. Had an excellent dinner. Steak and lobster was very good. Steak tacos were really good as well. We had really amazing service. Probably 3 – 4 servers /​food runners /​bussers around us at all times. One of the best dining experiences I’ve had in Mexico. Highly recommend. The vibe of the place is classy but still sexy and casual.

Attention to details, crisp steak cooked to perfection. Impeccable service at this downtown destination. Full bar with a nice selection of wines from around the globe. Good prices for good meat cooked right. Will return the next time we vacation here. Solid.

The wife and I stopped here for a few drinks this evening and loved the place. Beautiful bar, beautiful restaurant, friendly staff and great people watching. Our bartender, Jose, was fantastic. We didn’t have any food, but maybe next time. We will be back!

Best steak in Playa. We order food to take home and they were quick and the food was excellent. We ordered the salmon, the big cowboy steak, the mixed veggies, asparagus, and the short ribs. Flavorful and delicious!

Un lugar ideal para carnívoros — como suelen ser todos los restaurantes argentinos — y también para los amantes de buenos cócteles. Hay que destacar la gran variedad de Martinis que se ofrece en este bar: Martinis de sandía, albahaca, pepino, jengibre…
Para comer hay exquisitos cortes de carne Angus (de Canadá) como p.ej. vacío, lomo, ribeye o T-​bone steaks.
Otros manjares incluyen p.ej. el «pollo mendoza» (pechuga de pollo rellena con espárragos y envuelta en tocino, en salsa de queso y vino tinto) o «atún en costra de ajonjolí» con cítricos y puré de la casa, langosta a la parrilla, croquetas de gambas, empanadas, además de ensaladas y unos posters ricos.
Por supuesto tienen también el vino ideal para acompañar cada plato.
A los platos perfectamente cocinados añádele el servicio amable y eficaz — y ya tienes todo para una velada perfecta :-)

Great food & atmosphere. Good to people watch or catch a game on TV. Drinks were strong & a lot of variety.

Service and ambiance were excellent. I had a lobster dish and the hubby ordered «The Cowboy» — a steak. Neither were all that great. The Martinis were disappointing, good flavors but not enough oomph in terms of alcohol, felt like we were drinking cucumber juice. Maybe we ordered the wrong dishes — several items on the menu sounded appetizing. Despite the 3 star rating I’d give this place another try.

We were recommended to try Sur by a good friend of ours that spends a lot of time in Playa. She was right on! We had a great table right out front where we could take in the city, a fabulous waiter that was all over it when it came to service. Food was great! My husband is hard to please when it comes to steaks, but he loved the ribeye. I had the shrimp croquette (I think it was called) and omg. It was so good. Great drinks too! We will be back next time we are in Playa!

Me and babe love this place. Jose is the best bar tender. He makes the best Martinis ! We always come back for the cucumber, watermelon, basil and Ginger Martinis sooooo good !! Lobster n steak were so ymmy too !!

De noche sabe mejor y por supuesto que se ve mejor. Este extraordinario restaurante es de mis favoritos y eso que soy un fiel amante de Playa del Carmen con todo el corazón. Su diseño arquitectónico y su concepto de alto glamour lo hacen uno de los más visitados por mucha gente todos los días.
La calidad es inigualable, el sabor, el servicio de calidad 5 diamantes yo le podría dar sin ningún problema. Los meseros son expertos en su menú y ten por seguro que te van a orientar y a recomendar siempre lo mejor. Para noches especiales con la pareja o celebraciones en familia yo lo recomendaría ampliamente.

Apenas hace unos días tuve oportunidad de cenar en el Sur Steakhouse y sí, la verdad es que sí está muy bueno. Pienso que es de esas veces en que concuerda perfectamente la imagen del lugar con el servicio y bueno, obviamente, lo bueno siempre cuesta. Digamos que no es barato, pero vale lo que uno paga. La carne que ahí sirven es de esta que se conoce como calidad Angus y los cortes son deliciosos. Pero no todo es carne en esta vida (aunque así lo parezca) y también tienen algunas otras ofertas interesantes en el menú. Yo pedí, a manera de entrada, una especie de carpaccio de atún y ahorita que les escribo esto ya estoy salivando de nuevo.
Los postres también son de primer nivel y la recomendación que les puedo dar, además de que intenten llegar con el «tanque vacío», es que vayan de noche al Sur porque es cuando mejor se aprecia su bien logrado tratamiento estético.

Una verdadera casa del Steak, cortes Sud Americanos, además, ensaladas… langosta…
La calidad de la carne es Angus de Alberta, Canadá, lo pongo como dato de lo que supe. creo que no se tiene que ir tan lejos teniendo a Sonora, Chihuahua y Nuevo León. dentro del país, pero bueno…
El atractivo de una casa de carne como ésta, es el término y el conocimiento del asador en cómo es medio, tres cuartos, rojo. azul. sellado… cuando no tienes que regresarla porque sabes también pedir el término, todo está bien. Conozco gente que tiene el problema que no sabe comer carne y no saben pedirla, o no le atinan al grado de cocción que lo prefieren y tampoco es culpa de la cocina, digo. casos hay… me he dado cuenta que es cuestión también de diferencia de sexos, no se si estén de acuerdo algunos; las damas suelen pedir la carne mas cocida y casi siempre… perdón… pero es recurrente que piden un término medio, y sí se las llevan en el término correcto, al partir el primer bocado: joven, tiene sanguaza! O sea lady. dijiste medio no tres cuartos… los caballeros gustamos mas de la carne que escurra la sangre, tenemos mas agudo nuestro instinto animal me parece…
Aquí, la verdad que me gusta como preparan la carne, acompaño con jugo de carne… proteína + proteína… y sus papas claro…
Hay un plato especial muy bueno que es el guisado de lentejas, lleva una serie de carnes como chorizo y jamón serrano y hierbas que simplemente es mucho mas que un plato de lentejas, que de por sí, ya son buenas incluso hechas en casa, raro es a quien no le gusten las lentejas, pero aquí son especiales.
Para el buen diente y conocedores de lo bueno: El plato Mar y Tierra, Langosta (300 gr) y lomo (250 gr), Con eso y un buen vino y un expresso al final con un postre, que la sugerencia en lo dulce es: el bombon de chocolate (Fudge) … y un digestivo… acabas viendo Ángeles… pides cama inmediatamente…
Sugerencia para el bien gozar después de una comida de este tipo… a unos metros, caminas a la playa y te postras en la arena para arrullarte con las olas del mar… te reto a que trates de tomar un libro a ver si logras terminar de leer dos líneas…

Este restaurante es sin una alguna, uno de los top en la quinta avenida. Es toda una experiencia mágica. En general siempre es bueno, la atención ni la calidad varían, pero, si quieres aprovechar al máximo las maravillas que ofrece el Sur Steakhouse debes ir a cenar, porque la iluminación que tienen le da toda la onda de velada romántica y por cierto, huele delicioso. En cuanto llegues, querrás ya pedir todo, pero tranquilo/​a, disfruta del panecito y empeza la noche con un martini de sandía que es riquísimo. Si eres amante de la carne, déjate impresionar por la recomendación del chef y pídete un vinito tinto para acompañar. Te garantizo una enorme sonrisa en tu boca y un bienestar dentro de tu ser.
Este lugar es para comer un delicioso corte, en su punto en un súper lugar hermoso, limpio y la mejor atención y servicio.
En cuanto al costo, es elevado, pero lo vale totalmente.

Muy buen lugar sin duda.
Los cortes de carne son suculentos y muy bien servidos, acompañados de un buen vino, ya que tienen una interesante propuesta en vinos.
El ambiente es genial y lujoso, el aroma del lugar es freso y apetitoso. Definitivamente el mejor lugar para que te vean. Cuando la gente pasa y te miran en este restaurante, puedes ver la cara de aprobación en cada uno de ellos.
Si quieres impresionar a una persona, no debes dudar en ir a este restaurante, aunque claro, debe ser carnívora para que pueda disfrutar en su totalidad.
Aunque también hay buenas opciones para vegetarianos.
No es difícil de ubicar, ya que el lugar es sorprendente, ademas de contar con una higiene más que perfecta y una decoración que despertara tus sentidos.
Toda una genial parrilla argentina Sur Steak House.

Esta parrilla argentina es una de las mejores opciones en playa para carnívoros. Con los típicos cortes argentinos, churrasco, vacío o bife; y una buena botella de vino tinto, esta es una gran experiencia culinaria. Tienen algunos platillos de marisco también buenos para los que no gustan de la carne roja.
Este restaurante estaba ubicado en la, ya desaparecida, Calle Corazón, tan sólo unas cuadras arriba. Aunque se mudaron mantienen su buena reputación. Es un restaurante nuevo y muy atractivo a la vista.
Los precios son algo elevados pero normales para un restaurante de este tipo sobre la quinta avenida.
La carta de vinos es particularmente buena con vinos de mejor categoría que el promedio. Si quieres impresionar a alguien, esta es una buena opción.

Came here 3 times in 1 week, this place has to be one of the best Argentinian steak houses around. 1^st night had the VACIO steak, nice and juicy, 2^nd time had the CHULETON, basically T-​bone steak, was delicious. My whole group loved their food and servers are the best around, my son would drop my fork and immediately I was placed with a new one.
If you like empanadas, you will love these here. Baked or fried, truly delicious.
Will definitely come back here on our next trip atleast twice.

During our afternoon visit to Playa for the day, our old favorite restaurant moved to dinner only. So we had to fine another location for our lunch experience.
We found that with Sur. They open at 1pm for lunch and have several seating areas from patio, to first floor, and second floor.
We were not disappointed with our selection. It was raining a bit when we arrived, so we opted to seat near the patio area. Great for people watching.
The service was great from the beginning to the end. The menu also offers a fresh fish option, and grouper was the choice.
I recommend this location and we will be returning in the near future.
