Being from LA where there is an abundance of Asian food, we missed it while in Playa. So I set out to find the best one. We tried a couple of other places which shall remain nameless and just for the record there is not that many in Playa. Finally we visited Babe’s noodles bar and I was blown away! They have an impressive variety of Asian dishes from Vietnamese, Thai, Japanese, Korean, and Indian. The menu is simple but complete with all the most popular dishes from each of these countries. Oh let’s not forget the delicious Swedish meatballs! What? This dish is mere nostalgia for the home country of the owners. Try it because it’s just simply special and a treat specially in Mexico. Started off with a cooling Mango Daiquiri which is a giant slushy drink with a generous amount of alcohol and yummy natural fruit flavor. For appetizers we started off with the Giant coconut shrimp and when I say giant, expect just that. Perfectly breaded and sprinkled with coconut these are a must! Also ordered the Shrimp on wontons doused on the best spicy basil sauce I’ve ever tasted. These are only 2 pieces but there is so much shrimp on top of these wontons they are my favorite appetizer. Next we had the salmon sashimi in a light sashimi dressing which was a perfect concoction of Japanese and Thai with a dash of Europe topped with beets. Next we had the goat cheese rolls and if you love cheese these are for you! I love it so these, I pretty much ate by myself. They have a light sweetness of honey and passion fruit and a bit of crunch with walnuts. For our main courses, we decided to try a salad so we ordered the Vietnamese salad a happy mixture of veggies and shrimp topped with a refreshing Sesame lime spicy dressing. A lightly spicy salad yes please! For the other main dish we had to try the executive chef’s most beloved dish, the Swedish meatballs. Here I am thinking well I came to eat Asian food, but when in the world am I going to have an opportunity to try authentic meat balls?! So we gave it a go and it was heavenly! Succulent meatballs, with simple and flavorful sides of mash potatoes, beets and pickled cucumbers. So yes you came to eat Asian food but do yourself a favor and order Babe’s most popular dish ;) For the soups, I recommend the Tom Kha Gai with chicken, I always get it when I am here. Playa del Carmen is hot everyday but this dish was worth the sweat on my upper lip ;) Playa del Carmen is full of so many cookie cutter restaurant so this is a place to break out of the ordinary. Decorated with tasteful pin up girls on their colorful walls. The overall playful vibe of Babe’s had to be one of my favorite things. Not pretentious and where everyone is welcomed. Do I recommend this place? oooooh yes!!! Come right after the beach, with friends, or date night. Price is also I can’t complain about! I was shocked with the amount and quality of food I got for the low price.

Noodle bar in Mexico? They’re doing right at Babes. I ordered the salmon over a bed of sautéed spinach and garlic mashed potatoes and a basil mojito, passion fruit mojito, and a passion fruit blended mezcal drink. My other half had the pad thai. It was all so damn flavorful and delicious. The service is friendly and they have a/c in the back. Great food, drinks, and service.

Came to babes last year on a recommendation from a friend and it was outstanding. Couldn’t wait to get back. Swedish meatballs are fantastic but somethings that’s overlooked(and I don’t believe is on the menu) is the side-dish they serve with the meatballs. It’s some sort of cucumber salad that I would enjoy all by itself. So good! This night I ordered ½ Swedish meatballs and ½ chicken vegetable teriyaki. As usual it was off the charts! Washed this down with a couple ice cold Sol beers. Life is good!

Can’t believe this place is rated so low. Best Asian food in playa, amazing margaritas. I always go for the stir fry chicken with garlic and pepper. Great place for a cheap meal and a drink. All the locals know it

my friend and I stumble across this noodle bar and it was great. The wait for a table was a little long but totally worth it. The service was amazing and we enjoyed every last bit of our entrees. Very cool place to hangout and have a great meal in Playa de Carmen. Would definitely recommend to friends. Muy muy delicioso!

Avg food no balance between sweet and sour all dishes were heavily sweet. We tried two appetizers and 3 entrees. We left the leftovers which were substantial. Normally we would take them home.

This place rocks. A local recommended it when I mentioned I was getting burned out on eating guacamole everyday. Pad Thai was crazy good.

Ate here on Xmas eve. The host seated the couple who walked in after us. We decide to wait at the bar until we got a table and the bar back/bartender was real nice and he took our drink order. After a few minutes we got seated at the table right next to the banyo. We order our food and my wife tried to wash her hands but the sink was broken. We get our food and eat and watch customers go in and out the banyo and play around with the broken sink. Then we see a server use the restroom and just like everyone else doesn’t get to wash his hands and comes back with a bucket of water to flush the toilets. We decide to ask for the bill because we lose our appetites and they tried to charge us for a beer that never made it to our table. Get your act together Babe’s.

Went there for the afternoon meal– wanted to try a basil Mojito but they were out of basil. So I ordered a half order of what they call their pad Thai noodles. It’s certainly came out piping hot and they gave you a combination meet it had pork shrimp chicken and fresh veggies as well as rice noodles. The sauce was not a pad Thai sauce traditionally. I would call it sweet-and-sour sauce tasted like they used the Thai chili and garlic sauce as a base instead of peanut sauce which it should have been. Still I thought it was okay and ate it and enjoyed it. However like I said it was not traditional pad Thai noodles. I’ll probably go back to try the curries. The options here in Playa Del Carmen for good food at a reasonable cost are not many. Not unless you want to eat tacos every day. If you’re in town I would give it a try it’s pretty good.

Babe’s is the best Thai place I’ve tried in all of Playa Del Carmen. I’ve been a customer for nearly 6 years now and it has never disappointed. The Thai Chicken Noodles — basically vegetable stir fry with linguine type noodles all in a peanut sauce is my favorite. Sure it is not authentic Thailand type stuff like I would find in the Bay Area, but for a place in Mexico it is quite amazing. One reviewer commented of the spring rolls being fried. That is normal in most parts of the world; a salad roll(aka summer roll or sometimes called spring roll) is probably what he was expecting. This is more like an egg roll. So I’d take his review with a grain of salt. The drinks are the best. Really well priced, huge, and potent. If nothing else come for drinks. The Mescal Margarita is my favorite. Lastly note: the Map on the Unilocal page is wrong. I spent an hour trying to find the place on 30th last time, it is instead on 10ST between 5th and 10 Ave.

THE(BASIL) MOJITOSHEREARESOFREAKINGGOODANDCHEAP. So good I had two, and for only 55 peso each. Amazing deal especially in Playa, where most cocktails begin around 100 peso. Getting that out of the way, I had the Pad Thai(shrimp only) and it was pretty good. Sweet and on the spicier side than the Thai we had at Mezzanine in Tulum, but definitely not the BEST I’ve ever had. Still good. Would probably go again if I was ever in Playa.

Just left. Didn’t eat more than a bite of any of the 6 things we ordered. If you are thinking this is a healthy noodles place, run. Everything here is full of fat and either fried or doused in some greasy fat. We got the pad Thai and it was nothing like a real pad Thai. It was not edible. Spring rolls were deep fried tortillas with who knows what inside them. Uh, where I come from, spring rolls aren’t fried. We came directly home and brushed our teeth and are trying to get the fried bad grease smell off our clothes. Not sure why such a great rating. Reconsider.

3 words: Giant frozen drinks. You can pick margarita or daiquiri or mojito. A lot of different flavors, my favorite was tamarindo. Food is good too, mix between Thai and Swedish(the owners are Swedish). Location is across the Santanera Club

Consistency is important and visiting a restaurant 4 – 5 times we have rotated between the Thai Basil and curry dish with jasmine rice(either shrimp or chicken) and the Pad Thai(nicely flavored peanut sauce, but not spicy, so ask them to make it a bit spicy), and we had it twice where the noodles were a bit too broken up(maybe overcooked) but still good taste. Also like the Yellow Curry with coconut milk and pineapple. Service is always good, when they get busy, have patience. we have had the shrimp rolls in the past with a mango dip, so if you are with a larger group order and share.

Babe’s offers a laid back and eclectic atmosphere with delicious cocktails and lip-smacking good food. They’ve got something for carnivores, seafood lovers and vegetarians alike. Most dishes have an Asian flare but there are a few dishes mixed in for those not in that sort of mood. The décor is quite the conversation starter and the vibe is definitely very hip. Service can be a little too laid back but has never been a huge issue. Prices and portions are both decent. As with most restaurants in PDC, air conditioning is basically non-existent so maybe don’t order the spiciest dish on the hottest night!
