El Sultan

Nice food. I ate Homus with falafel great place and good service. It’s good to find this kind of places.

At first, it seemed strange to find a Middle-​Eastern restaurant in a Mexican beach town although after a few minutes consideration, other than the language, the weather and topography are similar to Haifa or Alexandria. The surprise was that the hummus, falafel, and tabbouleh were as good as the best I’ve had in either of those cities and the Arab flat bread was better. Unlike most Israeli falafel restaurants, El Sultan’s bread was fresh from the oven. Apparently, the locals agree. There are two El Sultan’s in town. One is in the Rinconada district, near Carrizalillo beach. It is the ideal place to meet friends for a chat and snack. The other is on Zicatela beach looking directly out at the glistening water beyond the sand and coconut palms. Hopefully, I’ll not read this review when I’m back in the Pennsylvania winter. It would bring tears to my eyes.

This is a great little restaurant near the entrance to Carrizalillo beach. The food is great. They have a basic offering of middle eastern comfort food: shwarma, falafel, hummus, etc, along with cold beers. They have a kids play area, but it doesn’t interfere with your meal if you’re a non breeder. For four people, we spent ~200 pesos on four meals, several bottles of water and 3 beers. Definitely a great deal for the budget conscious traveler or a hungry surfer.

Cuando estoy en Puerto y también se me antoja sentirme cerca del Mediterráneo, el Sultán es la mejor opción. En el lugar hay una amplia selección de platos inspirados en el Medio Oriente: pan pita, falafel, shawarmas, kebabs, y por supuesto, el cremoso hummus.
Si es que tengo ganas de algo más fresco, también lo encuentro: en la carta hay gazpacho, ensaladas y pay de queso frío (aunque ese lo debería pedir siempre, es un postre bien refrescante al paladar).
Ya cuando de plano me quiero sentir toda una sultana, entonces pido una hookah. Me encanta esa sensación de tener una pipa enorme con tabaco de sabor, un rico te y sentir la brisa marina que se respira en los corredores y entre las mesas exteriores del sultán.
Además de una comida excelente a un super precio. Las porciones son grandes así que pueden gastar de 120 – 200 por dos personas, según el hambre que tenga cereza del pastel se la lleva la salsa, porque claro, en México nunca debe faltar picante, sea de donde sea la comida. ¡Las palmas por esta genial idea, Sultán!
