We had just finished enjoying a meal that we spent well over $ 100 on and made a stop by the bathroom on our way out. I headed out to the restaurant to wait for my friends when a man approached me in a white collared shirt with dark hair by which I can only assume he was a manager of some sorts. He asked for my ID and when I mentioned I was just waiting for my friends he demanded I present my New Zealand passport or ID. I didn’t have my passport on me but I showed him my USID and then he aggressively told me that I couldn’t be there and I needed to leave the restaurant immediately. I have never felt more disrespected in my life. Do not go here.

After enjoying lunch for an hour at the Britomart Country Club, we paid for our meal and freshened up in the bathroom. Upon exiting the bathroom, an incredibly aggressive and rude gentleman(likely a manager) approached us demanding to see our passports. When none of us could provide the documentation he was demanding — we were literally thrown out of the restaurant. This is after spending nearly $ 200 on lunch. I have never felt more disrespected and uncomfortable in my entire life. Avoid this establishment at all costs. We truly could not believe how terrifyingly angry this man was for no apparent reason.

Located in the heart of Auckland CBD’s coolest bar district, sits Britomart Country Club. Best known for its chic open space, with its suave exposed brick walls and hanging greenery, it’s easy to see why people are so hooked to heading over for cocktails after a hard day on the grind. After having been a couple of times for drinks, we thought it was about time we put the food menu through its paces. Featured above is their Fried Chicken Burger with a side of chips. The burger itself wasn’t bad for $ 12, with the chicken inside being crispy and flavourful, however, we found the size to be quite small for the price. Further, on this occasion we found the service to be shocking. Forget service with a smile, this was more like service with a scowl. Not quite sure whether we’ll be returning anytime soon, which is a damn shame because it’s a beautiful place for a drink.

This is almost a ridiculous review as my guy and I come here every week, sometimes twice as its walking distance from home, warm, cool atmosphere and we can debrief on our day over some beer and wine! They have just renovated to include pizzas on the menu and a pizza station and they are amazing! Also side note — if you are a wannabe Aaliyah like me or love yourself some 90’s hip hop in the background — Tuesday night is yo night! I literally made a spotify playlist last night while sitting there haha Enjoy! But don’t take our table. We need it. :)

The BCC isn’t really my scene. After bar hopping around the harbour in hopes of finding something that suited us this was our last port of call before we bailed after one quick drink to try our luck in Ponsonby. It’s essentially a glorified beer garden that seemed to be filled with yuppies and older people. It was absolutely packed with blaring music so obviously these folks were enjoying themselves. Basic spirits are your standard city price of $ 10 a glass and for anyone playing at home a standard shot of alcohol in new Zealand is half that of Australia(but apparently most places pour doubles as a starter anyway). They serve food also which we didn’t try ourselves but it looked pretty tasty. This joint gives me the vibe that it’s the place to go if you want to be seen but it’s not entirely welcoming. If that’s your jam, give the BCC a crack.

Like a upscale beer garden right in the middle of town. Great place for after-work or for starting the party. A bit upscale and nice crowd, and a good place to have glass of wine or champagne. One of the best place in town in my view. Décor is also simple but it makes the cut for a good evening

Cool vibe, good mood. To the person who complained their order wasn’t taken I hope you realise what a fool you made of yourself. It’s a sophisticated bar with good live music and nice cocktails. Get a pitcher and enjoy a nice afternoon in the sun!

I have only ever been to Britomart Country Club for drinks, but have always wanted to try their restaurant menu. They used to serve delicious pizzas(which sadly I never tried) and other dishes, but have just recently changed their menu — from pizzas to ‘Kiwi’ inspired dishes. Think ‘Fush n Chups’, ‘Bucket O Chicken’ and ‘Smashed Pav’. I think Britomart Country Club is one of the coolest venues in Auckland CBD, in terms of décor and atmosphere. It is like no other restaurant, with its garden outdoor setting. I love the hanging plants, the artificial grass, the trees, and the varied seating. Once inside, you do feel like you are out having a picnic, which is unusual in the centre of town, but very relaxing as you are away from the hustle and bustle. The atmosphere is top notch. The restaurant and bar were packed on the night we visited!(Maybe also because the All Blacks were playing and they had a huge screen plus a TV showing the game…) Everyone was happy and enjoying their night! Two friends and I went to Britomart Country Club a few weeks ago on a busy Saturday night. I was lucky enough to win a voucher and very excited to try their new menu. We first started with drinks and small plates. I ordered a ‘Mamacita’ jar(a $ 12 cocktail consisting of tequila, pineapple juice, passionfruit pulp, lime juice and grenadine), one friend ordered a ‘Lemmy Lemonade’($ 5) and my other friend ordered the ‘Hot Mulled Wine’ — a 1 litre jug for $ 25 made up of red wine, maple syrup, cloves, orange, cinnamon, star anise and cardamom. All the drinks were perfect. I highly recommend the ‘Mamacita’ jar or any of their yummy cocktails. For small plates, we ordered the ‘Roast Vege Salad’($ 10) — a variety of roasted vegetables with feta cheese sprinkled on top. This was a nice dish and all the flavours worked well together. The ‘HCHM Fries’(hand cut, handmade) priced at $ 12, and a large serving with a yummy sauce. They were very moreish, according to my friends! We also ordered the ‘Mac n Cheese Bites’($ 10) — small balls with macaroni and cheese inside. Unusual and not enough flavour — really needed some bacon! For mains, one friend and I shared the ‘Bucket O Chicken w/slaw, potato and gravy’($ 30). Absolutely delicious! The chicken was cooked perfectly, with a more sophisticated crumb compared to something like KFC. We really enjoyed the drumsticks! The slaw was tasty, but the best part was the mashed potato and gravy! I could have easily eaten another bowl! My other friend ordered the ‘Smoked Fish Pasta’($ 14), which was also delicious. The pasta had a nice pesto and the fish was very yummy. Lastly, desserts. Well, I was really looking forward to the ‘Smashed Pav’($ 8) and the ‘Carrot Cake’($ 8). When I told the waitress that we wanted two carrot cakes and a smashed pav, she replied saying they were not serving carrot cake tonight as the«chefs could not get the recipe right». We were gob-smacked. Making a carrot cake is easy! We could not believe what she had just said and were extremely disappointed. Also, why couldn’t they put on their menus that they were not serving carrot cake — that would have been more helpful!(We could have popped across to Milse instead… sigh). Instead, the waitress offered Hotcakes with maple syrup and ice cream. I couldn’t pass up on that because I love hotcakes. However, I do think they are more of a breakfast meal… They were pretty good and cooked really well. However, the ‘Smashed Pav’ was also a disappointment. Just a whole lot of crushed meringue with a raspberry sauce that was too bitter. No sign of a ‘Kiwi’ pavlova there. The service was great though — our waiter always topped up our water, asked how our meals were, asked whether we would like another drink etc and we were lucky enough to have a very attractive and kind male waiter(who we must of stared at the whole night!) Overall, Britomart Country Club is a great place to come because of the exciting atmosphere and beautiful outdoor setting. The food is tasty, but I would rather go across the road to other Britomart restaurants for more delicious and authentic food. They say their food is ‘Kiwi’ inspired, but it was really just upmarket pub food. Although some of their food is ‘Kiwi-ish’, I was hankering out for some seafood and a REAL pavlova! [Side note: Britomart Country Club does not take bookings, so I suggest getting their early about 6/6.30pm, like we did. We also got a park right outside, which is lucky! Otherwise, I recommend taking public transport as parking is usually horrendous around the Britomart area!]

I’ve been to BCC quite a few times since it opened a couple of years ago. Mainly on a Friday evening. It started off really well with a really different and alternative décor(garden bar meets container ship). The food was tasty, there was a wide variety of drinks, and the service was excellent. Since it opened though the prices have creeped up exponentially. House wine is a pretty standard $ 9, but a Heineken tap for example is $ 11, and I went there last Friday and a bloody mary was $ 20! That’s more expensive than their other more elaborate cocktails and essentially it’s vodka and tomato juice with a few extra garnishes. The service is still very good and you get great table service even when it gets rowdier later in the night. Haven’t sampled the food for a while but remember the pizzas and burgers being pretty good.

Locating it on Unilocal,I went to here after shopping in queen st. I sat down waiting for some one to take my order. But nobody went to my table anyway. So I went to the bar by myself to order a drink and something to eat. Since it was the first time to be here, I asked the bar tender for some suggestions, for example what’s the most special drink in this place. But indifference was shown on his face and I was told that every cocktail was the same 12 dollars. No more words… More. The cocktail was not that good as Unilocal comments, and I don’t like the kiwi cola salads. Even it’s in my neighborhood I won’t be here anyway. After finishing the drink and salad, I was not dare to try their food again, and then grabbed a cheese burger to go from another store at the front door, that was the real food I had at that exhausting night.

Britomart Country Club or BCC as its commonly named has been a favourite of mine since It opened in 2011 pre Rugby World Cup. You are guaranteed a good night out whether its a casual drink, a date night or a few after work on a Friday that gets a bit out of control– then you can alway slip next door to 1885 for a boogie(club owned by the same people) they do great pub/bistro style food — the prosciutto pizza is to die for which is yum for lunch. Basically it’s an all round kickin spot! I regularly hang out here because there is a good vibe/people that frequent this central auckland bar

i wanted to love BCC, i really did. with its airy gardened space replete with glowing heatlamps for those chilly(and of course wet!) auckland evenings, the large bar area with an impressive drink selection, and the convenient location right smack in britomart’s center, …but it just didn’t happen. we ordered a couple tapas to share, which were decent, but nothing to write home about. the main problem, however, came when nearing the end of our nibbles. *still* chewing with food left on our plates, a server comes over«are you all finished up here?» um, no, i’m chewing and there is clearly food on my plate. five minutes later, now mid-swallow on the final bite«can i get you anything else?» «no we’re okay for now, thank you.» two minutes later — check is dropped on the table. at this point we’re getting the hint that they want us OUT of there. so, in getting ready to leave, i run to the bathroom before heading up to pay. and can you believe during this two minute potty break, my friend is approached AGAIN, this time with a blatant«are you ready yet??» …yes, ready to never come back here again!!!(mind you, there wasn’t even a wait and if a reservation was scheduled then why not just politely tell us that?!) sorry, BCC but making your customers feel unwanted is probably not the best business model.

I am so in love with this place! Came here for lunch on a quiet Monday for some pizzas and drinks and loved every second of it. Yummy pizzas and their mozzarella sticks are sooo good. As in on my next visit I’m considering just ordering a whole bunch of mozzarella sticks for lunch. We ordered a jug of the virgin Falling Water which was refreshing and delicious and I also had a cheeky hibiscus sangria which was bright pink and made my day. The waitresses were lovely and chatty and I’m coming back soon to try the rest of the menu and tapas. I’ve been here for drinks on a couple of occasions and I think this place is my new fave stop for cocktails. the gingerspread spritzer and watermelon cocktails are especially good. BCC always has a cool relaxed vibe and some of the bartenders are really cute too(just saying).

This is my go to spot for after-work drinks with a group. There’s heaps of long tables, plenty of heaters, DJ’s, delicious pizzas and perfectly salted crunchy fries. Not to mention the staff are fantastic, they have a great attitude and will even take you order and payment at your table(How good is portable eftpos?!). Ideal. I also recently heard that they have started Sunday night movies screenings, where they show cult classics on the big screen. It’s free and they have complimentary hot dogs and popcorn… count me in!

I really like how Britomart Country Club try various themed days /events at their bar. Recently I went to a vintage market there on a sunday. I’ve also been to a sunday cider session where I enjoyed the Monteith’s apple cider(on tap) and a really good steak sandwich. On Monday nights they have«hospo night» — half price drinks and food for anyone who works in hospotality(from 5:30pm). They were also playing classic movies on their projector for awhile there; though I’m not sure if this is happening at the moment. I have also visited for high tea, which while it wasn’t outstanding, it was still very nice. Britomart Country Club gives me a Melbourne bar vibe; it is an open air, garden bar. Did I mention they even have a putting green?! Cute.

I came here for my Christmas work do a few years back and it was such a great venue. Everything was awesome — the drinks were good(especially the cocktails — try the Lothlorien Falling Water), the food(pizza) was also great and came out fast(they were a little on the small side, but that’s okay). The décor is also really good, you feel like you’re both indoors and outdoors at the same time. I came here for a function so it was booked out, but I imagine that the place would get really busy otherwise, and would require a booking. Seriously, with cocktails that taste like that, I’m almost certain it does.

One of the more chilled out and sociable spots in town, it’s a sort of urban parody of a country club — it’s a bit pretentious but irreverently so if that makes any sense. It’s a lovely semi-outdoor room that’s always airy and spacious. There’s grass on the ground, or if you were here for New Years Eve 2012 – 13, you’ll remember the sand they shipped in for the ‘beach’ effect! Drinks are a highlight here, particularly if it’s a cocktail you’re after — this place offers some of the best around!

Britomart Country Club does everything so well. Whether your looking for a night out til the wee hours of the morning, an afternoon beer, dinner, snack, or even high tea, they somehow manage to cater for all of this. Part of the new Britomart developments, this bar is very popular but never feels too crowded because it’s quite large. They do awesome yummy cocktails with fruit and allsorts of goodies. And their food is just as good. I especially like the crispy chicken with coconut sauce. Keep an eye out for their weekday specials; on Mondays you can get their gourmet pizzas for a mere $ 10!!! Insane. Unfortunately they don’t do gluten free bases though.
