It has been sometime since my last visit here. We attended as part of a large family gathering that had prebooked. As fellow diners began to arrive, the waitress removed 4 chairs saying that they could not get around the whole table to serve, and that others had to sit on a different table, but this did not happen. We then had a different waitress that started to take drinks order, and then disappeared off to serve another table before everybody had given their order, we finally ordered our drinks and food. The mains started to arrive before all the entrée’s had been served. There were a couple of people that received their mains just as most of us had just about finished our meal. From talking to others in the group, they were not impressed either with the service or the quality and taste of the food. Comment of the night was«The bread tastes better than my steak», which summed up the evening!

Bronco’s has been around for years in Manukau, but they still haven’t managed to get it right. Admittedly, most of the times I’ve been here have been in groups of 12 – 15 people and our experiences have always been quite average. I don’t think I’ve been to another restaurant where they think its acceptable to bring out two mains for two people, and then bring out another two or three mains 20 minutes later. I’m sure that my family and friends have never eaten a meal together here. Ironically, most of Bronco’s meals are pretty good, except for their steak which has at times, tasted like they’ve warmed it up in the microwave before serving it to you. Although I’m a fan of western-themed restaurants(or anything, for that matter), Bronco’s doesn’t deliver much in the way of an incredible dining experience.

A grand piano welcomes you into Broncos in the front entrance hall, but I’ve rarely seen it played. Mostly, it adds to a great, western ambience that permeates the place. Unlike other reviews, I’ve rarely had issues with the service. The food is good, though nothing spectacularly amazing. Something I’ve noticed is a flaw with most steakhouses in NZ is when they serve you ribs, they always bring out a bowl of ice cold water with a lemon in it to clean your fingers with(or bring it warm, but half an hour before the ribs come… right). Um, this might have been okay during the 1800s when perhaps plumbing wasn’t up to scratch, but hot water is the only way to clean your fingers thoroughly after they’ve been soaked in marinade. That’s my advice, Broncos. Otherwise, you pull a good show — would be amazing if you hired a pianist too to pound out an exciting solo too.

My friends and I used to come here all the time for our little catch ups, purely because it was conveniently located, and was somewhere everyone could easily get to. We never particularly enjoyed it that much, though. Being a vegetarian, there’s not much for me here anyway. The menu has a few options — Fettucine and nachos. For the carnivores there’s a lot of range; which is what I imagine, typical for a steakhouse(not that I’d know). The interior is cool — decorated in a wild-west kinda’ manner. The only reason this even gets 2 stars from me is because of their delectable dessert — I think it’s called Chocolate Chocolate and more Chocolate(see the photo) — it is sooooo gooooood. Aside from that, there’s not much here for me, or my friends.
