This café is a good choice if you are meeting someone who lives out west and you’re coming from the shore, it’s halfway between. If you come on a Saturday or Sunday, take a wander through the local farmers market down at the ferry terminal, 1 km from the café. Good honest café food in a nice informal setting with easy parking. We had the eggs benedict and arancini balls, both good. Have previously had a berry and chocolate muffin, again very good.

We went here on a Sunday morning with high expectations of the café. It is a long drive from Auckland CBD — 25 kms, to be exact — so it had better be worth the trip. My wife had the French toast, which she didn’t like, and I had the pork sausage. The sausage itself was yummy and the relish was good, but the balance of flavours was ruined by too much rocket leaves. We also shared a cronut: I like cronuts but this one was made cloyingly sweet by a topping of sugar icing. Too bad. Is it me? Are the flavours suited for a different taste? I really wanted to like this place. I’m hoping it was just an off-day. Aside from the food, the service was great. Staff were friendly. Their EFTPOS machine was unavailable so the manager just trusted me to pay later, which I did. Afterwards, we made a quick trip to the nearby market, and drove to the new ferry terminal for a look-see. These extra attractions made the journey nearly worth it.

Best Sunday morning outing… head to Hobsonville Point, peruse the farmers market then wander over to Catalina for brunch. Seriously. Lock it in for this Sunday. 1. You feel like you are out of Auckland City which we all love to claim for a little bit 2. You can do your weekly vege shopping or get delicious treats for Sunday evening dessert– time or stock up on amazing cheeses. 3. The farmers market has a band. 4. Catalina food was sensational and the portions were massive 5. Service was exceptional(as long as you don’t mind queuing to place your order) FYI: I had the mushrooms on ciabatta which was the special but I reckon if enough people ask for it, we could get it on the menu(thanks team!).

What I definitely like about this café is the location and the interior, I love that its an old Bungalow that has been done up very nicely. So it makes it a warm and lovely place to have a coffee, breakfast or lunch. They have outdoor tables which is great for summer and inside they have a kind of separate room if you want to get away from the busy area. I had the eggs Benedict and it was very nice, my friend had the fish and said she really enjoyed it. We received good and fast service so can’t complain about that. The only thing is that the menu isn’t that extensive so not a huge amount of choice. Apart from that is a lovely café in a very nice setting.

This café is definitely Auckland’s best-kept secret. I definitely hesitated in doing a review on it because I didn’t want too many people to find out about it. But I came to the conclusion that this café is too good to be kept a secret. It’s situated in the new Hobsonville Point suburb and you can tell the people behind both the café and the suburb know what they’re doing. Everything was done so tastefully, fitting in modernly with the old war time feel. I had a great long black and the scrummy French Toast with bacon, blueberries, banana and maple syrup. It was so good. The best thing about the café is that they have loads of gluten free options and the have one my most beloved ice cream brands ‘Charlie’s’. The café is a little way out for most people but so worth it. You can even catch the ferry there now from downtown! Why not make a day of it.

Catalina is a brilliant licensed café and restaurant located in Hobsonville Point out in West Auckland. I would never have even known it existed if it wasn’t for my boyfriend living nearby. And what a shame it would have been to miss out on this little gem! As I tend to do every time I go out for breakfast, when I went to Catalina I ordered the ‘big breakfast’. Poached eggs, sausages, tomato, homemade relish, mushrooms, hash browns, crunchy buttery toast — it was the perfect way to start my morning. But what made it even better was the delicious berry smoothie I coupled with it. I highly recommend both these options, and according to my coffee connoisseur of a boyfriend, their coffee is pretty good too. The outdoor area of Catalina is beautiful — really spacious with big umbrellas and a courtyard, it’s the perfect place to enjoy breakfast in the morning sun, or even a cold wine in the late afternoon. Tip: Every Saturday and Sunday farmer’s markets are held in the park right next to Catalina, where great knick knacks and curios can be purchased for a bargain

Lunch date and we chose Catalina because it was close to my work and easy for best friend. Outdoor tables were full so we sat at the huge dining table inside, there’s a separate dining room and lots of other small tables in the café to choose from. The paninis looked good today, beef and blue cheese for me and mushroom spinach for her, however I think they were toasted a tad too long as they were a bit on the overdone side. The wait was a little longer than we expected but it was busy. This buzzing café is a rock in the new subdivision at Hobsonville Point and I’ve never been disappointed before so yes, we’ll be back.
