The fresh, white interior at Cateoux gets me every time. Aaaand their food ain’t bad either. Their cabinet is always brimming with big bowls of salad and sarnies and they legitimately have some of the best sweet treats in akl… Big call, But just try their lemon curd cupcake and you’ll know what I mean… They do have a rather extensive breakfast menu too but it’s been yeeeears since I’ve ordered off it so I don’t really feel qualified to comment.

Catroux is a solid four. I don’t know why, but I got invited to the opening of this place about two years ago, and I was blown away by the canapés on offer. So much so, that I vowed to go back to try the actual food on the menu. There’s a blackboard menu and cabinet food at Catroux. I usually go for bacon and eggs, and it’s been really good every time. The salads and sandwiches are also great. They do this mini lamb shank pie which is delicious. The cakes are off the chain — if you like lamingtons and little lemon curd cakes, or chocolate or carrot cake or anything, they’ve got a beautifully presented line up of sweet treats including a fricken good brownie. There’s freshly squeezed juice on the menu too, huge bonus. Finally, they sell bread with toppings sometimes in the mornings — I’m pretty sure it’s Pukeko bakery bread, with sausages and meats from the Westmere butcher next door. Really good. PS: Catroux also caters. Keep this in mind for your next event.

Great café! I don’t usually come out this way but I came here with a few of my girlfriends a while back and we all loved it. The food is fantastic here. Catroux focus on fresh and simple ingredients that make for great tasting salads and filled baguettes. The cakes and other sweet indulgences looked good too. One of my girlfriends had their carrot cake and she said it was the best she had ever had. From time to time they do sell dairy free cookies. I had a vegan roasted pumpkin salad, which hit the spot while my girlfriends also had salads. Catroux use People’s Coffee beans. A small roaster that is Wellington based I thought the coffee was really good. Put it this way, no one at our table was complaining. The only thing I did not like was the kids play area. We were sitting close by and it was occupied by pigeons. I’d give it 5 if there was no sandpit. Wonderful café though, well worth the drive if it isn’t local to you.

I only just discovered this place recently as a result of my partner getting a flat in the area. And i gotta say, i’m pretty happy that i’m in close proximity. We went the morning after a rather big night and so I must admit I was struggling a bit. Sit inside or out in the sun, the road isn’t too busy so it’s nice. The place is pretty small which means food doesn’t take too long, and all the food seems to be carefully put together. There is delicious cabinet food if you’re eating on the run or want something to takeaway, Ciabatta loaves, and a great selection of menu items. I was trying not to die outside so my boyfriend ordered me the eggs been. usually I cant handle eggs benedict when i;m hungover, but this was sooooo good. Not too rich, not to sweet and just the right amount. Everyone else’s meals look amazing too and I will definitely make a return visit on a morning when i feel fresher to sample the other options. Great coffee too.

Great little café selling amazing desserts… if you’re into the rich stuff. Everything just looks really good. They do take away as well so you can pick up some delicious cakes for a shared lunch or dinner(or be a total glutton and eat in the car on the way to where ever you’re meant to be going). All the staff are real friendly and it didn’t get to loud(though it gets busy). The café itself is situated in suburbia… It’s in a nice quite area and after you’ve stuffed yourself stupid, take stroll down the road to the bay and relax some more.
