When I first heard the name ‘Cereal Killa’, I envisioned a kind of nirvana brimming with a giant repository of cereal. To my slight disappointment(I’m a cereal lover), Cereal Killa is not that. In fact, they don’t even have traditional cereal(which, now that I think about it — they are wayyy above cereal i.e. they are«killin’ «it). I digress. Not only is ‘Cereal Killa’ a super rad name, it’s also a super awesome place. They have fantastic, consistent coffee(eighthirty), a variety of brunch options and(so I hear) a Nutella milkshake to make a killjoy swoon. I thoroughly enjoyed the Mexican breakfast which included a generous serving of spicy black beans, avo, two fried eggs, tortilla strips and salsa verde. Service is friendly & attentive, good vibes all around. Not a huge amount of seating space, but they do have limited outdoor seating as well. It’s a pretty popular spot, so ‘peak brunch hour’ could definitely incur a wait. Even with the pseudo-random location on the«quiet» end of Dominion road, I’ll definitely be visiting again soon.

Having a catchy café name is definitely a way to draw me in. Hearing about your amazing coffee makes me head for you immediately. Unfortunately, I came in near their closing time(kitchen closes around 2:30) but they still had some goodies in their display case. I opted to get the spicy chicken sandwich and a long black(main reason I came). My long black arrived first. What I heard about this coffee was confirmed. Yes. Yes, this is great coffee. My spicy chicken sandwich arrived nicely toasted, which I always disect because I don’t eat bread, but was tasty. There was almost a curry-type of taste to the chicken, but I couldn’t quite put my finger on the combination. With all the fillings gone, and my cup now empty, I went to settle the bill when I spotted a curious type of protein snack called Moonbar. It was made with pistachios and dates and appeared to be Paleo(grain-free) so I threw one of those on my tab. I ate the bar in the car sitting outside of the café so I had to go back and get two more. SOGOOD. Will have to return here during proper business hours. Have to enjoy the rush and food!

Perfect indulgent weekend brunch in Mt Eden. I opted for the coconut porridge with pear, ginger, rhubarb and dressed in a caramel sauce of sorts. They were kind enough to make it with soy for me. It was deliciously sweet and the serving size would be best shared between two — porridge killer :) Will hopefully be back to try some of the other tasty goodies on the menu

This is the place baby… Coffee to die for, nice and strong or so my husband tells me I can’t drink the stuff anymore and mores the pity for it killa coffee looks and smells Devine. It’s great for kids, super friendly, nice mix of patrons. Oh and have I mentioned the food… No well the muffins are pure indulgent yumminess. Everything I have had of the brunch menu is inventive, delicious and satisfying.

The excellent reviews on Unilocal intrigued me into checking out this award winning café. And I wasn’t overly disappointed. The avo eggs bene and mushroom omelette were delicious, well presented and conveyed the taste of quality. While the menu said the omelette comes with a ‘bloody good chutney’ it wasn’t too close to that description. Food quality: excellent with fresh ingredients Taste: yummy and to the mark Service: outstanding and prompt, a bit cold Ambience: casual, funky, happy, laid back, part retro Prices: competitively priced While I had high expectations from the coffee, the iced coffee and chocolate drinks were so ordinary, I decided not to come back here for a coffee in a hurry. Overall, a nice pleasant experience that could be better if they worked bit harder on a few aspects, including bringing warmth into their service, and improving their ‘house cold coffees’.

This place murders, strangles, annihilates & generally blows cereal out of the water. After all, who’d want cereal with options like Savoury Mince with Butterbeans on Potato Rosti on offer instead? Cereal Killa is an unpretentious little jewel in the desolate wasteland of souvenir shops, tech parts retailers & Asian healthcare agents pushing powdered rhino horn. The interior has pop art-tastic paintings large and in-your-face as well as a unique artwork made from cereal boxes. Tables & chairs are scattered through the split level café in the very«on trend» mis-matched vintage store style. But we’re here for the food. One of the owners, a super-friendly English bloke, will sit down and have a chin-wag with you, so any specials will be apparent. The menu is pretty extensive, stacked with your standard Kiwi brunch faves, and a few novelties, such as the aforementioned Mince, a Breakfast Trifle and Coconut Porridge with Pear, Ginger & Rhubarb. We opted for the Bacon, Tomato, Pesto & Parmesan Omelette with«a bloody good chutney»(if they do say so themselves!). The omelette was eggxcellent; light & fluffy with a few crispy bits round the edges. The«Half English» was similarly tasty. Comprising of mash, sausage, spinach, tomato, poached eggs and hollandaise, all the ingredients worked well together, if being slightly heavy on the mash. Cereal Killa has a customised kid’s menu(seeing Egg & Soldiers on the menu took me back to my childhood!) and a great range of drinks. Their coffee provider is eighthirty, so you can sup away smugly, enjoying the organic, fairly traded roast. They’ll squeeze you a lovely fresh juice, with delicious health-boosting ingredients like beetroot & ginger as well. Brunching in Auckland ain’t cheap anymore, so if you’re going to do it, do it well. Eat good, fresh & local when you can, and Cereal Killa will certainly help you fill up with good coffee & good kai.

I went for the first time a month ago after hearing great things about the coffee. The coffee was excellent, as was the food. It was beautifully presented and just all-round yum. It was super busy when were there(Sunday brunch, whoops, should have thought that timing through…) and there were several people queued up waiting for tables. However, staff were still professional and friendly and didn’t seem flustered by the people waiting, but made a real effort to get them seated asap. The risotto balls are particularly excellent.

These guys moved into the neighborhood around May 2012 and have been pumping out the best coffee since. The menu is delicious, changing often(follow them on FB for foodporn) and the guys that own it are awesome to chat to. When I came back from the US after a month long visit, this was exactly where I wanted to go to get the perfect coffee and avo eggs bene(and I did — flight arrived at 6am, I was at Cereal Killa by 8am). Their coffee is always drinkable right away(which means it’s not burnt), and it’s just generally a great place to hang out. Cannot recommend enough to anyone — all ages(my parents are big fans), kid friendly. Plenty of parking out front and on side streets.

I first came here with a friend of mine not long after Cereal Killa opened. Inside it is quirky and colourful with art on the walls and colourful objects around the place. The tables and chairs are all different colours too. Cereal Killa is cool. The staff are incredibly friendly, the service we received on this particular day was amongst the best I’d ever had. The coffee was so good and I had the best juice of my life here. It was beetroot, carrot and ginger,(I asked to have the apple juice omitted and they did that for me) it was amazing! My friend had the pancakes and I opted for the fruit, it was all very yum. The menu is varied, taking you from the usual breakfast options such as eggs, cereal, French toast and fruit to burgers and salads for later in the day. We left both very impressed wishing that Cereal Killa wasn’t in such a random location.

I came here a few months ago after having driven past and wondering what this café was actually like. Located in the heart of Dominion Road you’ll find it just before Grange Road in Mt Eden. There is plenty of on street parking available, also around the corner on Grange road. Here I had the breakfast trifle which consisted of layered muesli, fruit & yoghurt. It was great and presented so creatively. I did however find it quite sweet down the bottom of the trifle dish as the maple syrup had sunk down there. I also had a fresh Booster juice, made up of beetroot, apple, carrot and ginger. I really enjoyed this drink, it was delicious! I found the coffee came out warm, which isn’t the nicest surprise, especially when you’re busy catching up with friends, busy chatting and then go to take a sip. Yuckie! At Cereal Killa they also have crazy old school art on the walls. They also have cereal boxes attached to the wall, which is quite a unique touch. I like this place because its different, unique and not your usual café. I’ll have to come back here soon to try their lunch menu.

We popped into Cereal Killa for lunch. It was Lani’s suggestion — she’d heard about it via a friend and after we checked out the menu online I decided it was a good idea. It’s in a weird little area of Dominion Road, with plenty of parking and not too much else around. We sat inside. It was a little too warm in there — even for me, the coldest of people. I ordered the salmon and proscuitto salad on rosti($ 17), with the poached egg option(add $ 3). Lani got the omelette. We both ordered freshly squeezed juices($ 7 a pop) and coffee. Everything arrived pretty promptly and pretty nicely presented. My meal was great. The rosti turned out to be this big fried potato pancake. Like one giant round wheel of potato, but no thicker than 5 mm. Delicious. The only problem I had was my poached egg didn’t arrive, but the waiter soon rectified this. I left feeling full and happy. Will return soon to try the avocado eggs bene and the bacon butty(which was on the specials menu). Note: For people with kids, the kids menu looks amazing — pancakes with lemon and sugar, bacon roll, eggs and soldiers — and pretty cheap, only around $ 6 for each of those dishes.

This is a relatively new, café on Dominion Road. With its retro cool décor, friendly staff and top notch food and coffee I’m keen to visit again. I kept seeing the sign for this café on my bus and thought it was an awesome name for a café. One weekend I called in for a coffee and some cake. All their cabinet food looked tasty but I wasn’t very hungry at the time. The service was friendly and efficient. My order was taken, and I sat down to read the paper. The staff member brought me over a glass of water. I enjoyed my coffee and the cake was great too. I’m now friends with them on Facebook and they post so many photos of the delicious food they create. I have decided I will definitely need to visit them again for some brunch. Choosing between the avocado benny, french toast and cereal killa triffel is gonna be a dilemma!

I know, the name annoys me too. This is a relatively recent addition to Auckland’s glut of cafes, and it’s a pretty good one. Tasty food, nice enough coffee, lovely staff. It earns extra points for having bottled condiments freely scattered around — hot sauce, brown sauce, etc. I mean the food was nice as it was, but everything benefits from a little hot sauce. The décor is odd though. The place has been done up with a sort of DIY aesthetic(old crates, unmatched cutlery holders and so on), but the premises themselves are very modern and new. It’s as if they’d prefer to be in a homely villa or old shop ala Revel, but the only suitable space they could find was freshly refurbished. Ah well. The staff were very polite, almost to the point of being deferential — as if they come from an older, more genteel era of service. When I gave the waiter my order I half expected him to bow and say ‘very good, sir. And would you care to peruse the wine list?’ But this is not a criticism. Far better to be classy than a jerk(a motto for all of us, not just café staff).
