I walked on the wild side today… Mt Albert and a vegan café. Cosset is a warm, cosy and inviting space with lots of nice little touches, especially the hot water bottles with their cute knitted covers, keeping our seats warm and just begging to be hugged! Pretty patterned wallpaper, old china plates, shelves of treats stashed into glass jars. Coffee was Kokako and arrived just as I’d ordered, hot. Lots of filo filled savoury options, a small menu to order from and a counter of sweet things. I tried the spicy potato filo rolls which came with roasted pepper pesto, a little of the chocolate caramel cake and a melting moment. Savoury wise the food’s good, but being vegan there’s always a compromise to be made on sweet options — the melting moment didn’t have the same ‘melting’ quality, mainly because that’s the butter component and this is a butter-free zone. The chocolate cake was a bit dry, but the cashew cream that came with it made up for this somewhat. All in all, a great little drop in café if you’re in the neighbourhood.

I love the atmosphere. I ordered a wrap and hot chocolate. Had a lovely time with my husband. Now we have a baby. I wish there is more space for buggies so I can go again!

Delightful food and amazing friendly staff. Delicate tea cups lend sophistication. Almond milk coffee! Several savouries and sweets home made and healthy! Half the menu is Gluten free and wow tasty. Portion control easy at Cosset.

I had the most dreamy solo breakfast date here on Saturday morning. The décor makes you feel like you’ve stepped back in time to a 1950’s living room — velvet upholstered armchairs, coloured glass candleholders and patterned wall paper. Their playlist is full of old crooners — Dean, Frank and the like — perfect for reading the newspaper and enjoying your morning cup of coffee in peace & quiet. I ordered the mushrooms w avo & pesto served on seeded bread. It was fresh and packed full of vege — virtuous for a weekend breakfast if you ask me! I’ve don’t know if it was the healthy serving of greens, the smiling staff or smooth tunes but i left feeling remarkably better than I did when I walked in. Thanks Cosset!

I had heard about Cosset but it just seemed to be too far away, despite the fact I am vegan and Cosset do vegan you’d think I would have invested the time to check these guys out, I did finally two weekends ago. Cosset is in an odd location at an intersection in Mt Albert, you could almost miss it,(I did actually). There is a large communal table outside with cushions which although looks comfy the thought of inhaling all the car fumes put me off, I sat inside. Inside Cosset is cute and cosy. Old school furniture with shelves of fair trade and organic products and baked goods. The coffee, kokako of course, an obvious choice for an organic vegan café, was perfect. There is a small kitchen menu but I opted for the bran ginger loaf which was so good I bought more to take out. For a small place there is a lot of cabinet food to choose from, sweet and savoury. Muffins, cakes, cute cupcakes, loaves, cookies, bliss balls, wraps… Cosset also sell their own chai which is famous because it is that good so if you love chai, get your hands on some Cosset chai. Out of curiosity I bought the vegan cashew aioli, that was amazing, my boyfriend didn’t know it was vegan until I told him. Cosset despite it’s weird location is a nice little escape from the usual café scene but without the compromise and the service was super friendly. Now when I go, it isn’t just for coffee, I stock up on aioli, chai, Nice Cream, that amazing loaf, and whatever else they have that looks good. Pay Cosset a visit if you haven’t yet, it’s worth the hunt.

They offer a ridiculous amount of sweet treats and savoury bites. I had a falafel wrap which was delicious and really hit the spot. Good for people on restricted diets as they have gluten and dairy free options. The women running it inside seem like genuinely nice people and I’d definitely go back. Five stars as I think these guys offer the perfect café experience. The tea is good, there’s plenty of stuff to munch on with your drink and it’s a relaxed atmosphere inside. What else do you need?

The best chai latte in Auckland, and the coffee’s great too. Heaps of gluten free options and love the fact the cabinet food, soups and salads are ever-changing. My highlight is the hot water bottles that are often placed on the comfy chairs in the morning — the best way to start a cold day.

A cute wee café tucked in a drab block of shops in Mt Albert, Cosset is an easy place to miss but a fantastic find. Specialising in vegan, vegetarian and organic foods, and often hosting little exhibitions of local artist’s work, Cosset is a unique café. Chalk, knitted tea cosies, wooden benches, flowers, knick-knacks — everything in Cosset is cute and cosy and makes you never want to leave. Due to its décor and the fact that it’s pretty small, the atmosphere of Cosset is very friendly and familiar — it really feels like a little family abode! My only critique of Cosset is that the first time I ever went there all I wanted was a piece of cake, and they didn’t have any. In their defence however it was after the lunch time rush on a Saturday, and their sweet treats are so good it’s hardly surprising they had sold out. Tip: Cosset also make their own organic Chai syrup, and, let me stress this point — it’s delicious. The perfect blend of sweet and spice — make sure you give it a go! You don’t even have to go to the café to find this wee delight, you can purchase a bottle of the syrup yourself from stores like Harvest Wholefoods, Farros and Huckleberry Farms.

Cosset is so good that you can bring dedicated carnivores here and they won’t even notice that there’s no meat on their plates, so busy they will be devouring their delicious food. I don’t think I’ve ever had a dud meal here, although I must admit to being an old stick in the mud and regularly getting the noodle salad. It’s really a cosy little space, and service is always friendly without being over the top. Like some other reviewers have mentioned, thank goodness it’s popularity hasn’t transformed it into a pretentious hang out. I only wish it were open at nights so I could pop down for a post-dinner coffee and cake, but I suppose people can only work so many hours in the day!

Cosset — you are awesome! This is my favourite place for coffee. I have eaten lunch and snack treats here too, everything has always gone down with a smile across my face. The atmosphere is a relaxed one, not so retro cool that it has become pretentious — that I like too! Staff have always proved friendly and relaxed, even when a long queue is at the counter. I have just discovered they have their own website and are on twitter as well, keep up the good work guys!

This cute little gem is situated in the randomest place, but no one even cares because it’s so cool. Especially for Mt Albert, which is rather lacking in good cafes. I have been here many times as I used to live just down the road and every time I’d find something different on the menu. They do lots of vegan, gluten free and dairy free food. And they use Kokako beans! My absolute favourite. The décor is rather the same old retro as many cafés but they’ve added their own cute flair to it with chalkboards and art. Definitely try their Hibiscus concentrate, you just mix it with sparkling water or else use it in flavouring for baking. This concentrate really different novelty that most cafes haven’t tapped into yet.
