Open during 2pm to 4pm. Very traditional Korean style. Both my friend and I enjoyed the dinner!

Top class bibimbap! I’ve been searching for the tastiest bibimbap Auckland has to offer for a few months, and I have found a contender here at Dong De Moon. For anyone unlucky enough not to have tried bibimbap: its a Korean rice dish with fresh vegetables, preserved mushrooms or pickles, beef, an egg and lots of spicy Korean hot sauce. This bap is cheaper than your average at $ 13, full of fresh crunchy vegetables, and topped off with a perfectly fried runny egg. The meat has a great smokey bbq flavour and the sauce is satisfyingly spicy. Think of Dong De Moon as a bar, rather than a restaurant. I’m sure it does great lunch, but at night it comes alive with big groups sharing soju, plum wine and Hite beer. The dishes are designed for sharing over alcohol. It’s noisy and can be a bit overwhelming if you’re stone cold sober. Don’t be afraid — order a bottle of soju to share(one between two is good to start) and make your share of the noise. The cold noodles are good(if a bit weird) and the spicy chicken is delicious.

CRAZYSPICY chicken wings. I couldn’t feel my lips/tongue haha and we got the least spicy variation. Their make your own seaweed rice balls were cute and delicious(maybe a tad salty)! And the tasty bowl of fish soup to(kind of) soothe the heat. The interior is cramped, walls are lined with interesting calligraphy graphics, tables were too small to fit our meals(may have been my fault as we order a lot hahahah) and bathrooms are cleaner than those you find on dominion road? Majority of the dishes are for sharing and SPICY(be warned), some dishes you can chose the spiciness but mild was still crazy spicy for me(and i eat spicy food everyday but still…). Apparently their dukbukki(spicy rice cake) is very genuine and the best you can find in Auckland but i really can’t judge that. We also ordered the bibimbap(mixed rice dish where YOU get to control how spicy it is with the sauce) and the steamed egg(sooooooooo light, soft, smooth and silky. heavenly). They are licensed so they serve the usual Korean alcoholic drinks(plum wine, soju, rice wine, cold sake, beers etc etc). Goes really well with the spicy food. I gave them 3 stars only because i couldn’t taste anything after the(mild) spicy chicken wings numbed my tongue.
