Devonport is spoilt for choice when it comes to beaches. Actually, so is the North Shore. Actually, Auckland is in general really. There are great beaches anywhere so the competition is tough. Duders Beach gets forgotten a bit I feel. This is partly due to the fact that it is quite hidden. It wraps pretty close to King Edward Parade so when the tide is in she almost disappears. Admittedly, I often choose other beaches over this one, but I have a very very fond memory of a long hot day here this summer. It was pretty busy, which created a really cool vibe. Someone had bought down a stereo and we had ourselves a nice little day party. The water is really calm and super safe for swimming and the water is — amazing. I don’t know what it is, it’s just super clear. There is also a cool line of rocks that are fun to climb on and jump off. But BECAREFUL. They have oyster shells on them and oyster shells are very sharp. My boyfriend got a pretty serious cut without even really feeling it. Duders beach is in prime position. Right in the middle of Devonport; you are close to lovely cafes and bars, just across the road from the good old Masonic Tavern and just down the beach from one of my favourite jumping wharfs — Torpedo Bay Wharf. It’s important to watch the tides because getting the tide just right makes the experience much better. Oh and I nearly forgot the view! You are sitting on an amazing beach overlooking the whole of Auckland Harbour! Awesome.
