We rented a house on the other side of the park from this beach. Really nice area. It’s a beautiful walk coming down through the trails to the beach. Great place for kids, we often walk down eat our lunch at the beach and hang out while the kids play. Not much for waves, so if you’re looking to body board or surf this won’t work. Lots of sailing, kite boarding, swimming. Also great for finding some shade and relaxing. Have fun!

I’m surprised this place is called a beach because I’ve never seen it be anything but flat– its a great view though. Being right on The Esplanade its pretty great for parking along the road or in the carpark towards the end of the beach. This is actually my favourite spot; I love lying underneath the big, beautiful trees they have there and just chilling out and a lot of people have picnics in the grass area in the shade. Eastern Beach is really more of a hangout for me rather than a swimming or tanning destination. The fish’n’chip shop here is pretty great and a very handy walk from the beach(their chips are so good!). Eastern Beach is great for families with little ones as there’s space to run around, but if you’re looking for some decent waves I’d look elsewhere. The great thing about Eastern Beach is that its great all-year round for that moonlit walk, that morning run, or if you’re just feeling like checking out a nice view on your drive home.

If you want to go swimming then check the tides before you come. Unless you like walking for an eternity and still find yourself in ankle deep water and then you get bored and turn back to the beach before you even get to go swimming. But at high tide it’s a winner. A beautiful bay to lounge about on the sand or on the grass under a tree. There are sporadically placed benches too. At the far right-hand end(if you’re facing the sea) there’s a bit of a grassy park area with more shady trees and picnic tables and public toilets. Among the fancy waterfront houses you’ll be able to find the usual beach favourites: an icecream, fish and chips, a cup of coffee. A couple of places to dine for a romantic evening if that’s what’s on the agenda. A great beach for kids(especially at low tide!) and families and pretty much everyone.

A beautiful beach you’d love to see out your window in the morning. Some people have that privilege, but for us less fortunate folk, there’s a mound of grass to sit on and watch the sunset or sunrise. Quiet during the cooler months, it’s a good spot to take a windy, secluded walk and pop into a nearby café afterwards for a cuppa.(a romantic gesture for your sweetheart) Though not a big beach, and riddled with shells, which is characteristic of East Auckland beaches, it’s a breath of fresh air in the middle of suburbia. During summer, it’s a popular spot to meet and go for a dip in the sea.
