Picked myself up this winter hand warmer on busy a Thursday morning. Such a beautiful but chilly day here in Auckland nothing like a good coffee to warm the body and start the day. I picked up this delicious long black from the guys at Eighthirty Coffee Roasters in Ponsonby Central Eighthirty Coffee is an Auckland based Roastery who supply to a select number of cafes and also have their own. The coolest thing though is they deliver their coffee beans around by bicycles! Their distinct red and white brand is hard to miss but when I see it I always know the coffee will be good! The banter from their baristas is always on point to making for an all around good coffee experience

Great coffee. Pure luck that I stumbled across it in Ponsonby Central, but I will be going back the next time I’m in Auckland. Alas, as we were only there for a few days, I didn’t have an opportunity to drink anything other than a morning flat white, but when I can, I will be back to try a real espresso. I’m fully confident once I try that(it’s my gold standard), I’ll be able to bump the rating up to a 5. As it is, the soy flat white is well made, tasty and perfect foam. It arrives promptly too. A good rich, almost nutty flavour, maybe caramel notes. Low acidity without tasting bland. Not at all chocolatey, which is how I often like my coffee, but it’s delicious.

This is really a 4.5 star review, I’ll have to visit them again to get my average of 3 visits down. Heard about Eighthirty when I was at Cereal Killa, and it was clearly the best coffee I’ve had in Auckland. I usually drink black coffee, and this was a really good long black, so I decided to go to the source. The receptionist at my hotel mentioned that they have the best mochas in town, so that’s what I elected to have on my visit in Ponsonby Central. I ordered one and, while it was good, it wasn’t the best mocha I’ve had in town. So if I were to stay with black coffee, Eighthirty would definitely be my go-to choice. Stay tuned for my updated review!

I don’t think I am a coffee snob. I mean I drink Starbucks for its great value. Nevertheless I know good coffee when I taste it. And eighthirty with the missing t does great coffee. It is not gonna be my go to café every morning due to its slightly hidden location. But it’s definitely going to be my coffee place when I visit Ponsonby Central. And I will make sure to stop at their original K’rd location when I am in that area. One thing that I noticed was that they are using organic milk, but the prices are very reasonable. $ 4 for a regular latte and $ 4.50 for a large.

We just moved to Auckland and are on a search for the best local roaster. So far, this is the best coffee we have had in Auckland, far better than the others we have tried(Allpress is the only one left on our to try list). It has a full rich flavor while not being bitter at all. At many places in town we have had to add sugar for the bitter finish, not so at eighthirty. Look forward to signing up for their delivery service! Will certainly be taking some back to Canada when we leave Auckland!

This coffee is on a par with Allpress. Great tasting, rich, flavoursome and leaves you somewhat addicted. New Zealand does coffee extremely well and ‘Eighthirty Coffee Roasters’ are no exception. You are greeted while you wait your turn — which is sometimes a rarity these days! They have heart loyalty cards, cool slogans on their coffee cups and are prompt with delivery. Very happy girl with daily caffeine-fix requirements!:)

Tucked away, inside the fruit and vege section of Ponsonby Market is Eightthirty Coffee Roasters. This place is tiny, yet they roast their beans on site, which I think is pretty cool. Want to know what else is pretty cool? I figured out that if you buy a coffee from a roastery your chances of it being bloody great increase exponentially. Well, at least that’s what I’ve found and Eightthirty is no exception. They seem to hit the nail on the head every time. Rich, perfectly extracted espresso and velvety smooth milk. I only wished I lived closer! If you like coffee, you need to get here ASAP!

I discovered this gem on K Road two years ago and used to take major detours on the way to work just to stop in here. Never have I had coffee in Auckland that is so rich in flavour and deliciously nutty. Every coffee is consistently perfect and they never roll their eyes at my prescriptive orders. The interior is unfussy yet cool, random old road bikes litter the store, sacks of coffee beans yet to be roasted and giant saw horses to sit on whilst reading great materials from the New York Times to Monocle mag. The new spot they’ve opened in Ponsonby Central is just next door to Ceres Organics which is equally as cool where they also do roasting. There’s never a queue and it’s a bonus that they’re open before 8.00am unlike Liquids for Life next door who prefer to sleep in.
