The staff seem to excel at poor customer service, there’s no element of politeness nor respect. Really unhappy with the service, at such a high cost you would think that they could concede on their attitudes.

Excel was a regular during my last year of uni when I practically lived in the business school. Yes it is busy but the staff are always really friendly and what they offer is a bit above that of the other cafes on campus. Excel actually do excel, their coffee is very good, they make a wicked short black and often never charged for the extra shot. Even though they have a prime location and run a monopoly in the business school since the other café upstairs went bust, they still have a coffee card. You can get through them pretty quick when you’re in the building 6 days a week. The food is well above average here, great salads, filled bagels and baps, proper pizza and they have for the sweet tooth, cupcakes, brioches and pastries too. Excel cater for functions held at the business school which considering how much people pay for short courses or the people that the business school attracts for the many events held here, the standard would have to be up there.

Are you a University student and on a budget yet still have expensive taste? Excel Café is your place to come if you’re after a decent on campus café. From what I have experienced at Uni this is the best food you’ll find, however in comparison to an actual café situated in a suburban area, this café is only so, so. I would have to say I do have a weakness for their banana smooties, I think they’re very yummy. They can also make a good Panini, however I must stress that toasted is the way to go! So much better! If you’re a vegan or vegetarian, majority of the time I have been to this café(on a daily basis for the last 4 years… what? I need my coffee fix for those early morning lectures) they have had an option for you to. Please note: wi-fi is free if you’re a student studying at the University of Auckland

My favourite haunt during my university days, Excel Café always offers something a little different and delectably scrummy. I was sad when they only brought out the Snickers Danish towards the end of my Honours degree, because I really wanted more excuses to buy it for breakfast. I celebrated my graduation day by doing just that! I remember coming up with the best solutions to the problems with my films or essays while munching on one of their freshly baked croissants and slurping down a hot, well-crafted coffee. Perhaps there was a magic potion in it that triggered my creative mode? You should find out for yourself!
