Nothing justifies patronage of Slurp. It is an awful café for students who are too lazy to walk down the hill for a proper lunch. I would know, I was a lazy student. The coffee is uniformly bad, but be especially wary of soy orders — you’ve got a good chance of getting curdled mulch instead of liquid coffee.

I had the lasagna… not like any lasagna I’ve had before. It wasn’t very Italian at all. It wasn’t bad tasting it just wasn’t what I was picturing when I ordered it, there was no trace of marinara sauce in it? Beside that, the ambience is chill.

I regularly visit Slurp for a breakfast committee meeting. Food is standard café fare but there’s quite a large menu and an extensive offering of cabinet food. Coffee is always good and prices are reasonable. I often get bacon and eggs which is well priced, cooked well and always delivered promptly. believe it’s also licensed.

I only actually ate here once and thought the food was okay, your standard café fare. However, I thought the tea was awesome. Easily the best in town, though I was probably a bit biased because they seemed to be the only one around(at least on campus) that provided silver top milk, rather than the usual low-fat crap you can get anywhere. It can get insanely busy though, so be prepared to wait for a while and possibly have issues looking for a table. There’s outdoor seating though, which helps in the warmer months. The staff definitely seem to be just a teensy bit nicer than at the other places on campus, though that may have just been me.

There aren’t very many decent cafes around Auckland Uni that are good for lunch, however out of the cafes on offer, this would be in amongst the better ones. All in all the food is average, but what they do have here is a lot of variety. At Slurp they have both a kitchen menu and cabinet food, both sweet and savoury. They have a lot of different cakes and slices to choose from. They have both pies, sausage rolls and quiches for hot savoury food, and sandwiches, wraps and salads as well. Slurp offer alcoholic beverages as well as the standard coffee and tea. They have a great outdoor seating area, perfect for those hot summer days. The closest parking would be on Princess Street or in OGGB car parking building. However this isn’t a café you would willingly come to if you weren’t at Uni

Out of the 8 years I spent at Auckland University I came here twice. I suppose it is okay hence the two stars, there is nothing great about it. Then again if you are a business on campus you don’t need to try that hard as students and lecturers alike do not have the time to go anywhere too far from the area. So you get standard food and standard service though it is extremely convenient given its location if you wanted to grab something to go. If I wanted coffee at Uni there were other places to get it from that were within the area that did it better. What I did not like and the reason I avoided it was purely because it was so busy. What they do have which is worth noting is one of those frozen yoghurt fruit flow machines so you can have fresh strawberry frozen yoghurt, this was a more recent acquisition for Slurp. If coffee is your thing and you find lectures hard without a good dose of caffeine, the caravan set up in the quad does a good one, really quick too.

Slurp is smack bang in the middle of the UoA on the corner of Symonds and Alfred Streets in the bottom floor of the Kate Edger building. It’s a very large room and it has a sizeable outdoor area so there’s plenty of space, but it’s also in an extremely busy spot so sometimes you’re just unlucky. The food is normal café fare — scones, muffins, slices, cakes — and there’s an excellent all-day breakfast menu. Coffee here is generally of a good standard, but not the best on campus. Pricing is good relative to similar places off campus.

Tucked away in the University of Auckland’s Kate Edgar Commons is a bright orange café known as Slurp. Handy to pop into in between lectures, they provide a variety of blackboard meals or something to take away to your next class. The staff are nice, but it can get insanely busy at certain times of the day, so don’t expect personalised service. The food is scrummy and their coffee very nice. The prices tend to fluctuate throughout the year depending on whether it’s a quiet summer or a bustling exam time, but it ends up being about average and cheaper than some other city cafes. I enjoy meeting up with friends and co-workers here, as it’s very central to student life and a distinctive place to find. Pop in sometime!
