Loved it. Highly recommend it because usually Chinese restaurants are not clean… That one is clean and staff is friendly

Sometimes the Bbq pork sauce can be very over powering. But I love this place, authentic Cantonese cuisine at its best. Great location too plenty of parking and the place is also big too. You can eat in or do takeaway

This place always get the thumbs up from us. No matter how long we leave it between visits over the past years the service, quality of food, price remains the same. You a pretty good size dish for what you pay… big enough that it is definitely takeaway material later on.(Does well for lunch the next day!!) The staff are always friendly and pretty quick to respond to any requests. And as one previous reviewer stated they have more large group size tables here than small ones, and it is BYO as well. Parking is outside though on a busy time it can fill up pretty quickly, but there is plenty of street parking nearby. Has been one of our favourites out west way for quite a few years now and will continue to be so.

Now working in Avondale, the Flourishing Café was the go to place for lunch according to my colleagues and an easy walk from school. Have to say I was very impressed with the cost and the freshness of the food offered but as previous reviewers have said, don’t over order. The portions are huge! Two plates for three people is still too much food. Defiantly a good place to go with a group of people if you’re like me and enjoy sharing. Will defiantly be making this a regular lunch stop when hankering for some great Chinese.

We go here quite often as it is close to home. One of the better Chinese restaurants around. I like the Pepper Beef and their Peking Duck(which has to be ordered beforehand) is very good, one of the better versions in Auckland. The restaurant mainly caters to groups but has a few smaller tables and the service is always prompt and friendly. Takeaway is also very quick. Warning to the uninitiated, the portions are very large so don’t over order. Two or three dishes is more than enough for 4 people. Décor is not anything to write home about but I go for the food, not the décor and it is worth it.

Having recently moved to Avondale, I was keen to try this place considering it was a Metro top 100 and I was drawn to the letters BYO like a moth to the flame. However, I was also a bit weary based on previous reviews. Overall, I was really satisfied with the service and the food. We ordered the lemon chicken, Singapore noodles, and honey bbq pork. Extra thumbs up for the sauce that the bbq pork was doing the backstroke in! All three were very tasty and served in massive portions and the food came out super pronto. I would recommend that you go with a big group as most of the tables are catered for it, BYO is $ 1/person, and portions live up to the family style theme. The service staff was really friendly and came by the table twice before we were able to decide what we wanted on our first trial run. They spoke English well and even answered our questions. I’m not giving more stars b/c the menu/décor is pretty standard and they insist on only 1 bill per table. It has a real Canton Café feel, but you’ll be able to get a table on a Saturday night no problem.

We used to come here quite often like once a week with the family. We used to get the salty pepper pork family favourite, but I think something happen — the chef change maybe? But it was not so nice anymore, really fatty with hardly any meat now. The service was pretty average and borderline rude, the waiter almost seem like we are getting in his way when we want to order…

Nice authentic chinese food here, usually very busy, great for a group, get a selection of meals and share. Got to try the crispy chicken, and although its not on the menu if you green beans with pork are good too.

People often rave about a certain Chinese restaurant in Kingsland and how great it is, but for my money, Flourishing(which apparently has a chef from the aforementioned restaurant), beats it hands down. For one thing, it’s more spacious, and whilst the décor was last sophisticated in 1992, it’s bright and cheerful, and the tables have space between them so you don’t have to sit on your neighbour’s lap. The food though is generally very good and fresh; the seafood and fish is probably the speciality of the place. I have had people say the beef is not a highlight, so perhaps stick to the fishy side of the extensive menu. It’s a great place for groups; with a group of six we ended up with masses of food, and all paid about $ 20 each. It’s also BYO, hooray.
