One winter’s eve when we couldn’t get in to the overflowing New Flavour restaurant, we decided to venture next door to the Golden Tulip. Straight away you notice the difference — this place has made an effort with their décor! Specialising in Malaysian & Indonesian cuisine, the waitstaff at Golden Tulip are happy to help and recommend dishes. The menu is extensive, as with a lot of Dominion Rd eateries! With classics such as Char Kuey Teow, Mee Goreng, Beef Rendang and Nasi Lemak, the closest you’ll find to a Laksa is Curried Laksa Noodles. We plumped for a Mongolian Beef hotplate, Assam Prawns and a Hainanese Chicken. Each dish was a very good example of it’s type, without being mind-blowing. The prawns were particularly good; plump & juicy with loads of the salty, sweet Assam sauce. The servings were huge, so we ended up taking the leftovers home. Golden Tulip & it’s close Dominion Road neighbours Cinta and Santhiya’s are giving Malaysian food the reputation it deserves. We’ll definitely be back to work our way through the menu!
