Hansan has great food, but this particular branch has really poor hygiene. Bugs flying around, crawling around, and even once in my food. Tables are sticky, doesn’t put me in a good mood to eat.

Have been coming here for about four years now and I have never had a bad experience. Yes, the food may not be the best quality, but it is cheap and perfect for those nights when you don’t feel like cooking. I also love that the menu has a wide variety of dishes, which makes it perfect for having something different each time. A usual night at Hansan would include starting with the Shrimp & Pork Summer Rolls($ 5.70) — they’re fresh, tasty and they’ll be gone in a second! For a main, I either order the Pan Fried Steak with Lemon Grass on Rice($ 12.80), the Pan Fried Chicken with Lemon Grass Egg Noodles Soup($ 12.80) or the Pan Fried Pork with Lemon Grass on Vermicelli(also $ 12.80) — all are absolutely delicious and very filling! I think the service is great, although there are times when I have had to wave at a waiter to get us some more water etc. but having been there on many different nights, they do get very busy… even on a Tuesday! The food comes out relatively quick and you always leave feeling very satisfied, which is why I love coming back to Hansan!

Average flavor profile even for Vietnamese food. Price wise not too bad. Not recommend

The worst flavourless phở I’ve ever had. The wonton fry batter was not clean. Disappointment. The décor was nice but the music selection was poor.

Cheap but the food was really bland. For a person who’s been eating Vietnamese food all her life, hansans was not nice at all. But hey if you’re on a cheap budget then this might be the place to go but the food isn’t that good at all. People rave about how good hansans is but really it was a 1⁄10 for me.

If your Looking for a cheap and amazing Asian meal then seriously you’ll love Hansan. We go as a family all the time, my girls who are now 2 and 4 claim this place as there favourite restaurant. Staff are so nice and don’t mind the vermicelli mess we always leave behind. There fresh spring rolls and fried wontons are perfect, lots of yummy noodle and rice dishes, Vietnamese food is so fresh. If you can’t be bothered cooking or in Newmarket and want a quick but flavourful lunch or dinner– Hansans your place.

Okay food. Phở was bland. Not the usual abundance of fresh bean sprouts and herbs offered for phở garnishing. Maybe this is difference between Northern Vietnamese cuisine and Southern Vietnamese cuisine, with Hansan being the former? Overseas Vietnamese restaurants tend to be Southern influenced. Hansan has more of a Chinese feel than Vietnamese. Staff was speaking Chinese, but could have been ethnic-Chinese Vietnamese. Fast service despite being busy. Cool interior with waterfall sculpture near front. Okay quick casual place to eat if you’re not expecting authentic(vs Southern) Vietnamese food.

Cheap place($ 10 – 15) for a simple Vietnamese dinner. I’m a fan of their dessert beverages. They serve your typical lemongrass pork/beef/chicken on a range of rice, noodles, vermicelli. Service is good. Good atmosphere.

Vietnamese is pretty varied from the French inspired Bánh mì and pastries to the rich Laos influenced curries to the light fresh aromatic salads. Hansan is more towards the Asian influence than the French so lots of noodles and rice and less bread and pastries. The décor is a little spartan but clean and doesn’t detract from the food which is rich and flavorful. We got some rice paper rolls since its a nice way to kick it off and to make it feel authentically vietnamese. The dipping sauce was the shining star in an otherwise drab dish. The Curry was rich thick deep red tangy curry with boneless chicken served with a very generous plate of rice. That was the highlight of our meal. The lemongrass fried pork was good but not quite good enough to write home about but the beef noodles had generous long egg noodles in a rich flavourful broth and tender thinly sliced beef which would have been more than enough if I was dining alone. The tables are nicely spaced but the service is a little lackluster sadly this is par for the course with most Asian eateries. But apples to apples Hansan is above most. Its price to be very accessible and the servings are large and the ingredients are quality.

Don’t make the mistake of coming here. The place is totally unauthentic and the food is flavorless. If you are a real fan of Vietnamese food you will be disappointed.

A great representation of Vietnamese food. If you have never tried Vietnamese food I could recommend this place as good authentic introduction. It can be such a wecome alternative to other Asian cusines. Compared with say Chinese food, I find Vietnamese food a lot less sauce based. It is not goey or overpowering in the same way, it is a lot lighter. Some of the dishes have a slightly trpoical feel to them which reminds me of Thai food, but once again, I would actually consider it to be a lot lighter. From what I saw of Vietnam, their traditional lifestyles are quiet simple, and maybe the simplicity of their food reflects that.

All my life I’ve been involved in a love affair with Vietnamese food. Our whole family used to drive out to Otahuhu to the Vietnam Café back in the day just for an authentic bite. Thankfully the Hansan restaurants have made the cuisine much more accessible with their great locations — CBD, Wairau Park, and this one in Newmarket. Common to all three is the authentic Vietnamese menu and great value — don’t come here expecting an amazing ambiance or anything as it’s all pretty no frills. Nobody that eats at a place like this really cares though — I for one just want to order my pork spare ribs or haiananese chicken, demolish it, and only have to pay $ 10 – 15 for the privilege. On that count, Hansan can’t really be beat!

I came here for a girlie date with my friend as we wanted to try something new and not too expensive. We had seen this restaurant every time we went to Nuffield St so finally we decided to try it. We were happy we did that’s for sure! The prices were really reasonable I got their spring rolls to start with which were only around $ 5 and they were really tasty, I always get spring rolls and I was completely satisfied with these ones. For my main, I chose their chicken curry with vermicelli noodles as I like gluten free options. I think this was only around $ 12 which is so reasonable as the portion was large and it tasted delicious, kind of spicy but I quite liked that. All our meals came really quickly and the service was fab. The décor isn’t wonderful and the menu was huge with lots of pictures so it didn’t feel incredibly classy but I don’t think that’s what this place is about, I believe their values are good food, fast as that is exactly what they delivered.

After returning from a trip including Vietnam a few months ago, I was stoked to bits when some friends emailed me saying we were going to a Vietnamese place for dinner, as the food there had been the best of the whole trip! Hansan doesn’t disappoint on this side. I had Beef Phở(Traditional noodle soup with raw beef which poaches in the soup, seriously, just try it!) and it was just like being back in Hanoi, delicate and rich, loved it! Also tried some of the pork and beef skewers, which didn’t even hit the sides! And all of this for less than $ 20pp including a beer? I’m all for that!
