Hopscotch has a great range of craft beers we are sourced both locally and overseas. You get the opportunity to sample any brew before you buy which ensures that you take home a keeper. The staff are really enthusiastic and have an interesting story to tell about each brew which you take home in a cool litre bottle. The brews on offer change regularly so ongoing visits are a must.

Whether you are a craft beer connoisseur or just looking to try something outside of the usual big brands, Hopscotch is the place for you! Hopscotch, for me is the definition of a hidden gem. It is located in the backstreets of Mt Eden, in an industrial garage with the obligatory corrugated iron pull up door. From the outside is looks pretty non-descript but inside there are approx 18 beers on tap, plenty more bottled varieties and even a small selection of whisky and wine! Whilst you can’t come to Hopscotch and get on the piss(it only has an off-licence) what you can do is taste any of the beers on tap before buying them by either the bottle(you can buy 1L resuable bottles there for $ 10) or the keg. Hugh, the owner is super knowledgable, telling you about each beer/brewery, as well as other interesting tidbits whilst you taste. The beers on tap rotate constantly but check out their website to see with whats currently on offer!

The only thing bad about hopscotch is where it resides. I only stumbled across it because I left my car here one particularly shady night, and when I came along the next morning I realised Hopscotch was open, and wasn’t actually a children’s store, but a craft brew shop. I walked in and was greeted with an impressive selection of beers — in fact, make that very impressive. There are so many different beers on selection, and the way you get them is awesome. You buy a ten dollar bottle(reusable) and choose which type of craft beer you feel like indulging in. The shop constantly rotates what is on offer, so you could be drinking a dutch brew one week, and a Dunedin one the next. If you love beer, come along to hopscotch. It’s well worth venturing off the beaten track, trust me.

I am absolutely flabbergasted that no one has reviewed Hopscotch yet. Holy crap. Hopscotch is THE destination store for craft beer in Auckland. Forget going along to your local off licence and picking up a few extremely expensive bottles of craft beer — head along to Hopscotch, buy a one-litre glass bottle for $ 10 and fill it up at one of Hopscotch’s 20 taps that constantly roll through with different drops. The beers chosen by Hugh(the fella at Hopscotch) are from all over the world — some come from places like the Rogue brewery in Oregon USA, while others get transported by Vespa from Schipper’s in Grey Lynn… one keg at a time, between the brewer’s feet. Hugh is an expert in helping people choose from his wares — he offers samples and lets you know what you’re tasting. So, whether you’re a craft beer novice or expert, there’s stories to be had and lessons to be learned at Hopscotch. I could honestly rant about this place all day. It has changed the way I buy beer, it has changed the way I appreciate beer, and it has given me some serious effing cool points when I introduce it to my friends. I am so quick to recommend this place — and so fervent in my recommendation — that people think I work for Hopscotch. I WISH. Go there, you won’t be disappointed.
