Quick lunch option from the food court at the mall. Choose rice and your own mix of salad at the beginning of the queue, try not to hold everyone up with your mayo or sauce selection(there’s about 10), then choose two toppings from a large range of sticky and spicy chicken, pork, beef or vegie options. Don’t forget to top with tempura crumbs. If chopsticks or plastic forks aren’t your thing, you can always do what my friend does and pull a knife and fork from your handbag!

I’ve always been a fan of Katsubi but the more I learn about food the more I do question food like this in malls. Their food is super good and really does make you want to go back for more… this is probably just the MSG talking… But never the less amazing staff members who are polite and as I’ve been a regular for years they are always giving me little extras to thank me for being a customer. Good old fashioned customer service right there! Lot’s of choices and generally quite good for you! If you haven’t tried it jump in there and give it a go! Be sure to tell the staff you’ve never been before as they will explain each step as they go along and be a little more patient with you. Remember to ask for a rewards card too! Lots of little freebies!

This place is ok for fast food style donburi. Everything is precooked and sitting out luke warm. They do cooked to order meals too but I have only had the donburi. I find I have to say easy on the sauces(you get two choices) otherwise they drown everything. You get two choices of meat for a regular sized bowl, $ 12.50.

Katsubi’s one of those places you crave after a while. I’m not sure what they put in their food but damn it sure is good. Think of it as an Asian Subway. You go along and choose your salad, meat, sauces, and if you want rice or not and then you’re away laughing. And for some reason I always feel better after having this instead of something else. I guess it’s because there’s loads of veges in there and they only use gluten free batter for their meat. Definitely a win, win for me. They also have other options like sushi and don buri which are great if you want to change it up a little. The staff are super cute and are always SO polite. I like to go there before we go to the movies and fill up on good stuff rather than fatty and expensive movie food.

I’m writing about Katsubi in Albany Mall because of their little tubs of tasters! Every time I walk past, a joyful little woman will hold out a bucket filled with little pieces of chicken on toothpicks. She will give me the most genuine smile and say, «Would you like to taste?» Every time I say yes… and every time I then can’t resist buying myself a Donburi. A Donburi is rice mixed with a selection of salads and meats and sauces. You get to custom make your own and choose what kind of things you want on your rice. I like to mix it up a bit each time and explore the different flavours. Sometimes I get it right and sometimes I don’t… but that makes it a bit of a fun game I think. The servings are huge and will definitely fill you up so for $ 11 it’s a great choice for lunch or dinner. If you don’t want to be getting yourself a Donburi I warn you: do not try the taster, it will suck you in!
