Auckland is a really multicultural city — it’s one of the things I love about living here. You can walk down the road and experience a variety of cultures in the space of only a few hundred metres. It’s great. Mt Roskill is an area on the outskirts of central Auckland that is home to quite a large Indian population, and with this demographic comes numerous Indian clothing and food stores. Khoobsurat is my favourite of these clothing stores. Located on the corner of White Swan Road and Richardson Road, you can find everything from saris and kaftans to bejewelled shoes, intricate necklaces and incense. It’s a delight. The store is brilliantly bright and vibrant, due to the hundreds of multi-coloured saris and such, and I feel instantly happier just upon entering Khoobsurat. I was even more delighted on Saturday when I found out they were having a big sale! I managed to score a fantastically full maxi skirt with flowers and elephants on it for just $ 20. Talk about a good time! Tip: Khoobsurat is a good place to keep in mind if you’re shopping for a wee gift for a little girl. My cousins are 4 and 6 years old and love jewellery. Khoobsurat has hundreds of sparkly, brightly coloured bangles that make the perfect costume jewellery and absolutely thrill the littlies. Plus, they’re really cheap!
