Longroom

I’ve always thought of The Long Room as more of a bar for late night drinks and a bit of a dance — and it does have a reputation for being quite pretentious. So I was very surprised to find they are open for breakfast and lunch as well as dinner, and the food is great!
I’ve been there twice for breakfast now and been impressed with both the big breakfast and the eggs benedict. Large portion sizes, quality ingredients and reasonable prices. The lunch fare is similar with the burgers being large, fresh and tasty and coming with a large portion of fries. Again the price is very reasonable and on par with or cheaper than similar establishments in Ponsonby.
The only area of improvement would be the service. It’s friendly and professional but often the food is very slow coming out and if it gets busy the waiters seems to get flustered and miss out some basic service requirements. But the food more than makes up for it, and they have a loyalty club that often sends you vouchers for spending with them and for your birthday.

Longroom is a great spot for drinks to kick off a night out. The night we were most recently there we were treated to free canapés and beer from the team at Peroni. Sitting on the patio you could be in any Ponsonby Road watering hole but sitting out back you feel like you’ve been transported into another place and time in the tiki bar. I always seem to be here with workmates for a quick wine, but I must make it back to try a tiki head cocktail!

Well, surely show off as a Friday or Saturday bar, some call it a meat market, other the best place in auckland. It all depends of your taste. I pretty much like it, surely a bit look at me i am here atmosphere but on Friday night and satudsay night it is happening. Dance floor is full and rocking. Won’t go every week end, but times to times, it still a great place.

Called in here for a comfy seat and a drink. This place is huge, lots of different seating spaces including an outside deck area right down the back. Serving bar type meals and platters and providing a good atmosphere, lots of people enjoying after work drinks. Sit back and relax to the sounds of ‘baby love’ and ‘signed, sealed, delivered’.

wow! this place is awesome or what?!! its so much better than clubbing in the city, the girls are so much better not dressed like Wh*** a very classy bunch of people dancing on the floor with great music, atleast it was like that when i visited here twice. I really liked long room, just cos the crowd wasnt full of stupid teenagers with their fake Ids, the crowd is in their mid-​twenties, awesome to relax here after a crazy long week at work.

Went to long room for after work drinks with 6 pax. Great service looked after us well. Had a couple of platters to nibble on. Not bad food. Jugs reasonably priced I suppose for ponsonby rd. Overall I would return.

On my first visit, a really shocking nightclub emerged out of a reasonable bar and restaurant. I’m not quite sure exactly at what point the staff at Longroom became so bad but as the night goes on they become rude, short tempered and unreasonable.
Since my previous visit I have been back to the longroom for an enjoyable time after being persuaded by a friend to give it another go. I was pleasantly surprised to be greeted by a much more friendly and laid back environment. The staff during this visit were helpful and happy. I have therefore revised my rating as an average of the 2 visits and might even go back again. I’ll put the first visit down to a bad crowd on a Saturday night as during the week it was a great place to hang out.

A friend of mine used to work at the Longroom, and he advised us that it is the must visit place in Ponsonby, and he was not wrong at all. The food was excellent, the location perfect, and the vibe social. We wined, dined and partied the night away.
Now, if you’re an avid cricketer, or just a couch level fan, then you would easily be forgiven that the Longroom would be a sports bar. You would be mistaken, just as I was; this Longroom is not quite the long room you would expect at a cricket stadium. However it is still upmarket and exclusive.
I’m glad it’s not a sports bar, we have enough of those, what we do need more of, are upmarket restaurants with middle market prices. At the longroom, the balance is just right.

The Longroom is something of a schizophrenic. I’ve had a couple of early evening meals here that begin with a few relaxed Saturday afternoon drinks then turns into dinner.
The food is really great (especially the Arancini and the Bread and Dips), and there’s something very chilled about having dinner away from home while sitting on a couch.
The problem happens as the night-​time crowd drift in and start getting hammered. I’m all for a hospitality business with versatility and I appreciate you need to cover a few markets just to survive these days. But unfortunately I’m now resistant to returning here for dinner because I don’t want to eat in a nightclub.
There are a few other places in Ponsonby that have the same issue and it’s annoying when the food is so good. Maybe I’ll just have to be a nana and go even earlier.

A mainstay of Ponsonby for a few years now, Longroom is a great place to meet people, as the place is actually pretty huge.
With a spacious outdoor area, a cosy and comfortable indoors, including private balcony rooms out the back, makes the place perfect for larger group gatherings.
Add the decent service, and the good crowd, Longroom never goes wrong.

This place is one of those trusty spots that you will always have fun at. The crowd is always awesome, the staff are friendly (had a friend that worked here for three years). the service is really great, even when its packed. And perhaps because its in Ponsonby or purely because its a great establishment but they look after it during the night. No sticky floors, no sticky bar tops, no mass glassware everywhere. It is impressive especially on a Saturday night. The dance space is okay but mostly people roam around inside amongst the high tables and stools. Its a great spot for a night out with your friends and to meet new people.
