The Williamson

Not much to say really, just a regular café, nothing stand out. We didn’t enjoy the food (French toast and a BLAT), but found the coffee nice and strong, and the service friendly.

A great venue for private functions in the upstairs room with it’s own bar and downstairs during the weekdays it’s an excellent stopover for well-​made coffee and treats to accompany.

I went here for a private function, not the café aspect, so my review is somewhat limited to that.
On Saturday night it was pouring with rain, so the stairs going up and down to the Williamson’s private function room were a little precarious. That’s not their fault, but my heels were quite high and I was sure I was going to break an ankle.
Service was great — everyone was on the ball with wine, coat storage, purse storage. The food was delicious (I assume they did it), and I want the recipe for their prawns. I ended up being ‘that girl’ that scooped a large number of them onto my plate…
They had two fires going, making it super toasty in there. Maybe a little bit too toasty, but I can hardly complain about that.
The outdoor area would have been gorgeous had it not been pissing down, and it was mostly covered so still able to be utilised by the boys smoking cigars.
I think the bathrooms were downstairs, so that’s potentially annoying for anyone a little drunky in heels, but it’s no big deal.
Staff offered to call taxis for people who needed them, which I always appreciate.
If you were going to have a stand up, canapé event for say 50 people, I’d highly recommend. It may be a bit too small for anything above that if it’s pouring with rain.
And it’s SUCH a beautiful building that I have always admired.

Top marks for the cheese scones. Allpress coffee, generally well made. Service a bit hit & miss.

I used to live down the road from The Williamson and it was a great pit stop on my way to Uni. They made pretty sweet coffee and always had a lot of customers in the store.
My friends and I went there for a birthday brunch and it was really nice. Really good, simple café food, just the way I like it. Their scones are also huge and make a pretty decent lunch if you’re on a budget.
They’ve got a whole bar upstairs that you can have for functions. I’ve had friends have their engagement party there and it was really great. I wanted to have my 21^st there but it was a little small. It’d be great for a big family function or a work event.
