While cycling through Mangere Bridge on a Sunday we decided to drop in here for breakfast. I really wish I could say that this was a great idea, but this was definitely not the case. We ordered the Captains Breakfast and the Creamy Mushrooms on white toast. The mushrooms were dropped down first and appetising is not the word I would use to describe them. Next the Captains Breakfast, which consisted of a crêpe with bacon and egg covered in tomato ketchup. The mushrooms were bland and the house was very heavy. My boyfriend gave up on the crêpe less than half way through. This will not be an establishment we will be returning. On the upside the iced coffee and chocolate milkshake were good.

I have been to this place more than 20 times now and the food is always consistently. Also, this is place is the best in terms of value for money. Great portions and tasty home style food.
Whenever I’m home, this is the place to go. :)

On the way to drop some visitors out at the airport, we decided we had enough time to to stop off for breakfast, so tried to go to Ruby Red just up the road. Unfortunately their gas supply had been cut that morning, so the kitchen was out of order, and my visitors were hungover and in need of a restorative greasy breakfast, so we decided to try Lucky Café.
I hadn’t been in Lucky Café before because it looks like one of those places where the food is unimaginative and a bit dull. I’m sorry for judging you on your looks Lucky Café, and jokes on me because the food was actually pretty decent, plus they happily handled the requests of the vegan amongst our group and made sure his breakfast was just as good as everyone else’s. It was all pretty reasonably priced too: a Ponsonby breakfast at Mangere prices, good stuff!
