The yum in yum cha. What a great dim sum place. Went here on a Saturday morning-ish(around 11:30) and we just beat the rush. Being a party of two we were seated right away on a shared table. Our seating was perfect, smack central but close to the kitchen so the carts were passing by us all the time. The selection is of dim sum is very good, with plenty of sweet and savory delights to taste. I must say the quality of the food is very high, the food was not overly greasy and salty. I can’t wait to go back with a bigger group, because just the two of us could not do too much damage.

After hearing good things about this place we felt we had to come check it out, plus well, we do love a good yum cha as much as a lot of others. Even though we came only about half an hour after opening time the place was already packed and a queue had formed. Waiting time of around half hour we were told and so we became No. 28 in the queue. No worries we had waited longer in other places in town… My first impressions. Well obviously it was good enough what with people spilling out the door waiting(for me this is a sign that the restaurant is a good one) and inside the service what I saw seemed to run pretty smoothly, trolleys went round the restaurant dropping their delicious delights on the tables of hungry patrons then off to quickly replenish for another round and tables were cleared quickly to allow for more customers to be seated. Well after the half hour wait we got seats at a table with 4 other couples. I love this sitting at the table with people you don’t know… Anyway we ended up sampling the prawn dumplings, radish cake, chicken siumai, steamed pork rib, fried sticky rice ball with meat inside, eggplant with fishmeat filling(茄盒) and porridge(this porridge with the blue egg is a must for me always at yum cha). All were very tasty, the porridge being one of the best I have tasted around Auckland. We had ordered too much as usual so ended up taking away the leftovers to savour later. The bill did not make as big a dent in the bank balance as a lot of other yum cha’s we had had… which was great. It worked out pretty cheap actually. Especially compared to other restaurants round town. End verdict… definite must for future yum cha’s!!!

In my opinion the best place for yumcha in Auckland. For it’s price and taste. The only negative I can think of is if you are the first to arrive for your group booking, they won’t seat you until more from your group arrives so they will give that table to another party. But once a majority of your party arrives they will put you back into first priority. Which isn’t a bad system but everyone in our group was only 1 – 4 minutes late lol come on haha Pretty cheap compared to other yumcha restaurant I’ve been to in Auckland. And food is just as tasty if not tastier. We spent $ 65 for 4 adults and we ordered quite a bit. For everything we ordered we could have paid up to double the amount at some other yumcha restaurant(don’t want to name names: P). We ordered a variety of dishes. And I eat all the weird stuff from chicken feet to beef tripe to deliciously fried crispy Chinese donut wrapped in a silky smooth rice noodle roll, dripping in a slightly sweetened light soy sauce ANDTHEN dipped in a creamy satay and hoisen sauce *drooling* … in Chingalish(Chinese English) it’s pronounced«Jar Lurng» and English name should be chinese donut rice noodle roll? Seriously I kid u not, order it next time. All yumcha places have it but you have to tell them as they don’t bring it out. I would have taken a photo but I demolished it too fast… My second favourite dish would be the«Malay go» or just simply Malay Cake. It’s a light and fluffy brown sugar custard cake wrapped in «Swiss-cake-roll» style with additional custard filling. Or other restaurants just serve it as a normal cake slices but this is DEEE-VINEEEEE hahaha The how-to for YUMCHA: Take a seat. Order your preferred tea(remember yumcha means to drink tea. The whole point of yumcha is to chat, drink tea and«nibble» for a looooong time). Tell them additional items u want that don’t come on the trolleys. Wait at the table for food trolleys to come around. point, nod and indicate you want one, two or three. Share each dish. Once you are full and content, take the piece of paper all the waiters/waitresses have been scribbling on to the front counter. pay then all finished~ enjoy guys !!
