Man O’War Vineyard

A lot of people are surprised how big Waiheke is on their first visit and the drive to Man O’War Bay is a really great way to see more of the island than the Oneroa to Onetangi circuit.
It is a bit of a trek over dirt roads, but the scenery — dry and stark hills rising out of the ocean, compared to the bush and baches of the rest of Waiheke — makes it worth it.
The winery is right on Man O’War Bay, set in a sweet colonial-​style little house. I’d be quite happy to live there — especially with a life-​time supply of their wine… try the rose, it’s amazing.
Anyway, it’s a lovely place to sit on picnic blankets and chill for the afternoon, snacking on their delicious platters and sipping wine — they also have a boules set, and the sea is across the road for more active types.
