Came in from a cold wet spring day for a hot bowl of dumpling soup, and I was not disappointed. Décor is not flash… It’s a food court after all, but the dumplings are great. I ordered the dumpling spicy, sweet and sour soup. It came out with 13 lovely dumplings in a great flavoursome both. Went out back to thank the cooks/chiefs to find them rolling out great sheets of fresh dumpling dough. These boys were making them from scratch. For $ 10 I got a great deal. 13 dumplings(I got a mix of the 5 or 6 kinds they make) in a large bowl of spicy soup. What more can a hungry wet lad want. I will be back… with friends! Joy and happiness for a mere $ 10.

So after a whole day of craving dumplings, I finally decided to hunt down this fine establishment(it’s been on my bookmark list for at least a year). And it indeed was a bit of a hunt! I really struggled to find it, and eventually found its entrance adjacent to the stairway up to Vivace and tucked away in an unassuming food court. The seating is out within the foodcourt/arcade. Don’t expect much in regards to décor — it’s not flash, but that’s just fine with me, as long as the kai is good and the food is cheap! I ordered the vegetarian dumplings with the sour soup for $ 10. The soup was super hot, had a nice spicy kick to it and some fresh bok choy. The dumplings were also very nice, although I did find the dough was a little on the thick side and wanting on the filling side. My meal satiated my hunger pangs and i’d definitely return, it’s excellent value for money and great if you need a quick feed.

I found No. 1 Dumplings by accident when I was on the way to another restaurant. Read the good reviews and decided to give it try. Unfortunately, I left disappointed. The restaurant is inside an arcade. The tables and seats are on a slope and they lead up to the counter where you order. I ordered the chicken corn soup and the Shanghai soup dumplings. You pay, get your self served beverage and utensils, and find a table to sit. The Shanghai dumplings were not that great. The dumpling skin was thick and the meat was nothing to write home about. It was just one dimensional. For $ 8 you get 8 pieces. I think I should’ve ordered the regular dumplings because that’s what they seem to be known for. My soup was cold. I think it was probably left sitting while the dumplings streamed. It was barely lukewarm however the flavors were great. Service was friendly but the food is what makes me want to come back to any establishment again and again. I may come back to try just the regular dumplings but I won’t be rushing for another visit.

Came here to use a Treat Me voucher which was described as «a huge set menu dinner for two.» They weren’t lying either. We got spring rolls, chicken and corn soup, pork and chive dumplings and chicken and vegetable dumplings. This place is very cheap. And the food is mediocre. I’d be happy with it for a cheap lunch if I worked nearby, but other than that there are plenty of other places that do better food for a similar price

Loved it! Dumplings were delicious and the owner super friendly. Best sweet and sour pork I ever had. I was blown away. I rate places by how memorable the experience was and this is one of them. I remember delicious soupy dumpling(that i embarrassingly squirted because i didn’t know they were soupy), full of flavor, and fresh with thin dough. I can’t say enough, the food here was top notch. I never had anything like this(even in Chinatown). I love dumpling and was so happy I found this place. I hope i get a chance to stop by when I am next time in Auckland. I am not a local so maybe there are other places that could be better, but I was blown away with this deliciousness. You can get your own cup of tea for free, make your dumpling sauce how you like — nice little perks I just love. Its such a great casual place to get a delicious lunch.

I HEARTDUMPLINGS — so it really excites me when I find a new dumpling spot! This one is tucked away in a wee arcade at the top end of High Street, as per most asian takeaway joints there is not alot of love in the interior fit out but it’s spacious and clean. The Pork, Prawn and Chive dumplings are so full of flavour — packed with chives and no fatty bits in sight. The dumpling pastry is a little thick but its so tasty I don’t care. I’ve now cottoned to the fact that you can get the hot and sour soup without the sour — it’s got baby bok-choy through it and is a really balanced broth. — there is a range of noodle soups with braised meats that also look delectable!
