Best beach on the island! Sheltered, sandy, great for walks and swims. Plenty of boats like to moor up as well.

Surprisingly when I asked– my local Waiheke friends said this one was their all time fave out of their many beautiful beach options on this island. I can definitely understand the appeal though– it’s gorgeous. And lots of people agreed– so many adults, kids around on the white sand and in the water. Lovely clear water and great for swimming or floating around. Loved their jokes about the naturalist swimming outfits– where there is a legitimate area for those people who favour it– down the left hand end in a secluded spot. You’ve been warned. A great grass section just before you hit the sand with public changing rooms, a shower and a lovely playground for the kids. Definitely a must see– especially if the locals themselves rave– they’d know best!

One of my favourite beaches of all time, Palm Beach on Waiheke is perhaps the most glorious place to swim in New Zealand. With its terrain providing almost daily shelter from any rogue weather conditions, nothing can beat this beach on a sunny, clear day. I always liken the beach to swimming pool, with the water clarity and stillness second to none. While not a steep beach, you can quickly find yourself in chest deep water, and you could be forgiven for thinking you were in your very own pool. If visited on the weekend make sure to visit an authentic French(I think) crêpe cart at the right hand end of the beach. This is not to be mistaken with the left hand end of the beach, a popular spot for many a naturalist.
