I must admit they serve the best(creamy and smooth) coffee in the Vic Park /Viaduct area(sick to my back teeth having weak lattes from a well known café chain on fanshawe st) Best part is the price and service

What I love about Paneton is that it’s not trying to be all things but manages to achieve a good balance of great service and convenient cabinet food selection with friendly service. Paneton is a bakery, foremost. You’ll find their amazing pastries and breads at high-end supermarkets. They also serve these goods at the front-end almost tearoom style café. There’s an alluring smell that wafts through from the ovens at the back. The space is simple and small but accommodates long lines of patrons queuing for their morning and afternoon coffee fix and sweet or savoury treat. They are a great option for a very reasonably priced simple cake — small, medium and large.

Paneton is okay. I had been meaning to check out their café and bake house which is opposite Victoria Park for some time but when I finally got around to it I wasn’t impressed. Maybe partially because none of their bread is devoid of animal products as I was told by a staff member. Maybe because the coffee was average. Maybe my expectations were too high but I was disappointed. If you love pastry and butter then this is probably a good place to come. I don’t and the coffee or anything else that was on the menu could not compensate for this. Come to think of it the biggest let down was that there was nothing really French about it at all, just the croissants and French baguette, that was the extent of it. Very average.

Paneton is such a guilty pleasure of mine. If I ever need a sugar hit mid afternoon I often take a stroll to Paneton for a custard croissant or brioche. They’re not bad for lunch either, they always have fresh rolls(I like the pastrami one) and hot pies and savories as well(I especially like the spinach and feta savory). I have bought their frozen pastries before but I think they’re much nicer at the actual store, who knows why?! Maybe it’s just in my mind but the ones from the store are much tastier. A good tip is to sneak to Paneton just before they close. They quite often discount or even give away the left over bread before they close for the day.

Paneton Bakery is stylish bakery café, situated right opposite Victoria Park on Halsey Street. I always enjoy having a coffee, reading the newspaper and gazing out at a peaceful park, with stunning trees, in fall the leaves are golden and shiny in the sun. Paneton, are well known in the café scene of Auckland for supplying top quality freshly baked bread. If your eating a bap in a café on Ponsonby road chances are Paneton baked it. A wonderful range of sandwiches and rolls are very popular with the large corporation offices around the corner, and its always a busy lunch spot during the week. I always enjoy a smooth delicious coffee, and a fresh meat and salad roll, or filled croissant at Paneton.
