Great food and good coffee. Shame about their rude incompetent staff. Everytime I go in here I really want to enjoy it as the food is great — but the staff let it down.

The Chiller, what can I say? I’d love to go on and on about your pies, but then you post something on your door from a rival review service, its just not on. You draw me in with your ‘Best Pies in Auckland’ sign. You know thats a challenge, you know I had to go in, and I’m very glad I did. a long table down the semi-centre of the room, then surrounded by little tables. Great friendly staff, excellent selection of salads(yeah I know, who would have thought *I* would compliment a salad) and my one complaint, was you need to get in there early. The place gets busy fast.

The Chiller is home to a tonne of Whitecliffe students and business people who work in the area. Although it’s got a decent amount of seating, I think of the Chiller as more of a takeaway type place than a sit in café. They do a great range of salads and sandwiches — the pricing is okay, central Auckland prices. The Chiller does freshly squeezed juices which is a huge plus for me, and a few sweets which I’ve heard are good. Parking out front is available, but it can be packed out at times, and if you park in one of the non-Chiller allocated parks, be prepared to be towed or clamped. They are really diligent with that so definitely avoid it.

The Chiller has a delicious range of food, almost comparable to the beautiful meals of Forbes Gourmet, but more similar to The Store in Kohimarama, Food Room in Ponsonby and The Fridge in Kingsland(I think they might actually be related). The pies are a must but my favourites are the sandwiches. These are reasonably priced, around $ 8⁄9 but I usually go for a pie as well just to ensure I fully satisfy my hunger. As an extra, the mint choc slice is very nice also, with the crunchy bits providing some texture adding to their experience. I feel wrong in some ways calling it a bakery, as it is a bit more glamourous, but it fulfills my personal purpose of what a bakery should be. Finally, parking is difficult. I have only ever had takeaway meals so have to quickly nip in and out with a quick explanation to the nearby shops who are particularly precious about their allocated parks in the small carparks, to prevent my car from getting clamps(which you will see hanging off their shop doors). Otherwise I would recommend the safety of the street, which can also prove difficult during the working week.

Working at an office just up the road from The Chiller meant I got to sample all the leftover goodies from meetings. yum bum. Then, funnily enough, I moved to a new office right across the road, yayyyyy. I would usually visit The Chiller twice a day. Once in the morning for coffee or juice, and once for lunch. And it had absolutely nothing to do with the lovely looking guy behind the counter. Absolutely nothing. The juices are yum and made from veggies you pick at the counter. The coffee is smoooooth and the food is mouth watering. Delicious salads, paninis, open sandwiches and gourmet pies are just some options. They’re moderately priced, but the deliciousness and quality of the food make up for spending a bit more cash. And they also do catering.
