Fun night, so many options to choose from. We went to the late night comedy at 10pm, means you can have dinner in the city beforehand. A pretty good lineup, with four different acts, lots of audience participation, lots of laughs.

What’s to say… its a great little dimly lit club, an institution featuring some funny comedians and some fresh rookies exposing themselves, a well stocked bar, friendly staff, uncomfortable seats(even for an hour) and lots of laughs. I’ve been several times and will go several more.

Always good for a boozy night out — late night comedy at this Auckland institution. Pretty simple good fun but with $ 5 beers who’s complaining?

We went to see Justine Smith last night — side not she is fantastic!!! The venue was a smaller room(called the studio) it was perfect for the amount of people and had a lovely atmosphere. There are stairs — which fitting with the era of the building are small and steep. The amenities clean. For a cheap night out with lots of giggles we would highly recommend.

Personal, friendly and a hell of a lot of fun! If you’ve never been you should go and it’s not as expensive as you think. Great location right in the middle of town and such a NZ icon. Lot’s of NZ’s best comedians have done circuits here at The Classic. It’s a piece of NZ history in my eyes. I’ve been to a few shows here and have always come out thinking what great value for money it was! I personally think the best time to go is during the Comedy Festival as there are so many different acts and shows all over. They have an on-site bar also which is great for a sneaky beverage or two before a show.

You could do a movie, bowling and comedy show all in the same night. This venue is located next to Queen Street Cinema and the new Metrolanes Bowling spot inside. Bring a date or bring friends, either way Wednesday nights for only $ 15.00 you can laugh or chuckle at 10 very different comedians. Pitchers are reasonably priced also at a mere $ 16.00. Just a quick safety tip: if you do not wish to sit in the front(i.e. be picked on by the comedian) wait a little when they are escorting the crowd into the room. Those who enter first are seated front first. Happy times!

Located in the very heart of the city, The Classic is New Zealand’s only full time comedy venue. With acts six night of the week this is a great option for those who want a relatively cheap but hilariously funny night of entertainment. For those on a particularly tight budget head along to ‘Big Wednesday… Fresh Comedy’ where for only $ 15 you can watch 10 comedians test out new material.

I mean, it’s «the home of stand-up comedy in Auckland.» Can’t beat that. I like the little booth things they have in the front bar. Super comfy booths. The drinks are priced at a level you’d expect drinks to be priced at. So as a bar, it pretty much does everything a bar should do. They also have the live stand up comedy there. They have a range of different nights which vary in price and quality. If you’re like, you’re probably the kind of jerk who likes to go along to the amateur nights on a Monday or Wednesday. The reasons being that they’re cheaper and you can laugh with the comedians who are successful and at the comedians who aren’t. The line-ups they present at the classic are varied enough that there will almost always be at least one comedian who you like. If not, you can always go and sit in one of those nice booths.

If you are after a cheap nights entertainment, that is hopefully full of laughs, how about a visit to Aucklands comedy club, The Classic? I’ve enjoyed a Wednesday night here at ‘Big Wednesday… Fresh’ which is 10 comedians for only $ 15. Not all were funny but they all got up there and did it, and I did find myself laughing a lot. If you are a poor student you can get two tickets for the price of one! The Classic has nurtured a lot of NZ comedy talent over the years. You might find your favourite comedian does a stand up show here, or if you go along to a new comedy night you could be watching the next big thing. When you think it is comparable to the price of a movie(and sometimes there are no decent movies on) — The Classic is an Auckland gem. Their website is really good for seeing what events they having coming up. It’s probably best to book tickets if it’s something you really want to go to, as it is not that big a venue and stuff does sell out.

This place is brilliant. It is one of the few establishments dedicated to fostering New Zealand comedy. Scott who runs this place really helps bring about new kiwi talent which sees this venue as the starting pit for many up and coming comedians — as well as frequently welcoming back known comedians. International talent also frequents the circuit here. It is the hub of all things comedy and acts as the basis location for the yearly NZ International comedy festival(which has just started for the year). The contestants for the Billy T Awards nominations have to battle it out here first before becoming nominees. It is a place of comedic action right in the heart of the city. Go visit with a friend, sit down have a beer and laugh it all back up your nose.

I went here for the show they have on every Wednesday, which is ten comedians for $ 15(students 2 for 1!). I have to say it was friggin brilliant. Not all of the acts were hilarious, but it’s such a good deal for a whole night of comedy. The night really had it all, the usual stand-up routine, magic, musicians, good interaction with the audience(which of course involved taking the piss out of them), and the MC was brilliant. It was my friend’s birthday, and one of the comedians brought her up on stage and sung a song for her; it was too funny. Check out this place for a good laugh. Bit of advice though; if you don’t particularly want to get picked on, don’t sit up the front.

The Classic is located on Queen Street, just a quick walk up from Aotea Square and the Town Hall. The popular Tanuki’s Cave is next door. Quite simply, this is Auckland’s home of comedy. There are stand-up shows on most nights, and entry is usually a reasonable $ 20 for four acts. It’s the archetypical comedy venue — there’s a small bar out front with all sorts of comedy memorabilia adorning the walls, while the interior is intimate with cabaret seating packed in close to the stage. Sit near the front and you’re bound to be the target of some banter! Being possibly the only full-time comedy venue in Auckland, the Classic gets it’s fair share of quality acts — the list of performers reads like a who’s who of Kiwi comedy, and the place attracts international acts regularly also. But it’s the local stalwarts that keep the Classic going — Brendan Lovegrove for instance never gets old. In short, the Classic is always a great time. Make a night out of it with a visit to Tanuki’s Cave before your show!
