The Gluten Free Grocer is the best place in central Auckland to find gluten free products, recipes and advice. My sister is gluten intolerant and as such I have visited this wee store more times than I care to count. That said, it’s not an unpleasant experience — quite the opposite. The Gluten Free Grocer is a cute, friendly store located on the Symonds Street end of Mt Eden Road. Providing gluten free breads, flours, biscuits, cakes and pastas, as well as dairy free products and condiments, The GF Grocer caters not only to those who cannot eat gluten but also to people with various other allergies. The staff are all super helpful and understanding, and pride themselves on ensuring no one leaves the store disappointed or unsure of their purchases. Baking tips, cooking classes, information regarding intolerances and lifestyle advice are also readily available at the Gluten Free Grocer. Tip: The Gluten Free Grocer often has really good specials on their products, so although independently owned their prices are often just as good, if not better than, the supermarket or other health food establishments.

Gluten free hot cross buns anyone? Good on them, now even the coeliacs out there can enjoy some buns over the Easter holidays. I like this place ‘cos it caters for the minority, has a large selection at pretty reasonable prices(gluten free bread tends to always be a bit more hefty) and has a nice range of goodies to chose from. With so many more people developing allergies in the Western world we really are going to see an increase in stores like this. The store is pretty easy to find and staff are friendly and helpful if you want any advice or queries. Baked goods are made off site.

There’s nothing more frustrating than going somewhere and not being able to eat anything in the store or supermarket because you’re gluten free. You can imagine my excitement when my friend told me about The Gluten Free Grocer. It is such a lifesaver. It’s got gluten free bread, pasta, flours, pancake mixes, cake mixes and so much more. They also make their own baking and pastries, which you can buy there. I’d really recommend their biscuits, they’re so yummy and you wouldn’t even know that they’re gluten free. On top of all this they have freezers with frozen pies, bread, pastries and heaps more. However they don’t just have gluten free food, there’s lots of organic and other speciality foods. It’s a really good place to go if you’re stuck in a rut with what to eat if you’re gluten free. And it’s got heaps of cookbooks to inspire you too.
