This event space/photography studio is easily one of THEMOST gorgeous spaces in Auckland! Think bright white walls, blonde wooden floors and huge windows overlooking K’Road and Myers Park that let in a ton of natural light. Not to mention, the owner Garth Badger is an absolute ledge! He’s an incredible photographer but also a wonderful host. I’ve been to a couple of events at Thievery now and everything is always on point from the lighting to the music to the food & drink. Cleverly, they’ve also partnered with some awesome beverage brands(think along the lines of Garage Project Beer, Antipodes Water, Supreme Coffee) so even if you are in there for a day shoot there’s delicious drinks available. It wouldn’t be review about Thievery without mentioning their studio dog, Nico the Italian Greyhound. He’s pretty much a celebrity on instagram now(Nico_rulz) and would definitely be reason enough for me to book the space!

I would not have come across this quaint studio if I had not been invited to a Unilocal event. This is the ideal space for hosting events, the floor has multiple rooms, lots of windows, white walls and light laminate floors. And of course the Zebra. This a great space!

Impressed: the only word that comes to mind. Thievery Studio is contemporary, quirky, light & versatile space that can be utilised for a number of things. Be it a media phot shoot, collaborative meeting, art event, film screening — done deal. Personally I am always on the hunt for locations, so I was delighted when I was invited to an event recently to explore this hidden gem. Simple yet perfect.

I’m not one given to hyperboles, but yowww, what a space. It feels like an Art Director’s version of Heaven — natural light, floor-to-ceiling windows, stark white urrthang, an old leather couch that God naps in each afternoon, and an artfully curated assortment of taxidermied animals… like a zebra jumping through a wall. True story. Was here for an event last night and was blown away by the studio, and I’m not a man who’s easily impressed — oh my gosh look over there it’s a dog with a puffy tail, whee!(That was a Simpsons quote, I swear I’m not crazy). It’s a pretty versatile studio, they do photographic and video shoots here, product and event launches, and sometimes, parties and events. It’s right on the K road too, so you’re surrounded by op shops, dumpling dens and strip clubs — basically everything that makes western culture awesome and interesting.
