Tried this place with voucher of set menu. Pretty good food and service. And their normal menu are very well price consider the quality of food. Will definitely come back!

Touquet’s position did make me think that I could have been down a lane in France with little tables out on the cobbles. Once inside you’re in a warm, well-organised space with the owner/Chef to greet us. My group sat at the rare at a high table on stools. The list is short and seductive, with four courses offered on the night we visited: hors d’oeuvres, entrees, main courses and desserts. The venison terrine was nice and chunky, well seasoned and served with plenty of bread. I had the snapper with green veges and dashi white broth for my main and it was divine. I loved how the little courgettes were cut into buttons. The sticky dark chocolate tart was a little boring and the caramel overcooked to the point of almost being toffee. But that was the only negative for the evening. I would go back and the service was tentative and friendly.

Touquet is a town in the north of France. Its namesake in Auckland is a lovely little place on Connell street run by a french chef that offers authentic and well-executed french cuisine with a twist. An amuse bouche of(actually nicer than they sound) offal croquettes was followed by a starter of venison pâté and a main course of deliciously slow cooked lamb(36+hrs!) with summer vegetables including aubergine, potato and tomatoes. Dessert was a manuka honey crème brûlée served with a perfect spongy madeleine and berry profiteroles. Casual in appearance, Touquet punches well above its weight in the food department. A nice new place to catch up with friends and I look forward to returning to sample more of their regularly changing menu.

Super impressed with Touquet, can’t believe it’s been open for a year and I’ve only just discovered it. Charming bistro setting, relaxed feel. It’s obvious from the first plate you’re in the hands of a classically trained French chef. Using the best of New Zealand ingredients, this place serves up vibrant plates of deliciousness — I had a golden beetroot and sheeps cheese salad for entrée(with baby salad greens and pinenuts), a perfectly slow-cooked lamb with vegetables for a main and berry profiteroles for dessert(filled with a tart berry sorbet, whipped cream, fresh blueberries and freeze dried raspberries on the side). The chocolate and caramel tart would have been my second choice. Couldn’t help looking at the menu(which changes often) and making a promise to return.

We got a Grab One voucher for a three course meal for two and decided to try Touquet on a quiet weekday. Really liked the clean and casual décor. There was only one other party there and we got some little quinoa salad appetizers care of the chef which were fresh and light. The pulled oxtail was big and impressive for a starter, and quite tender and juicy. The ricotta and spinach ravioli was much smaller and the purees were light and dampened the strongish ricotta flavor to make the whole dish more subtle. I personally would’ve preferred something a bit tangy to counter the ricotta, rather just make it less ricotta-y. For mains, the Akaroa king salmon was seasoned and cooked PERFECTLY(crispy skin but still deep pink and juicy on the inside and the whole thing flaked apart)… I love the taste and texture of salmon and the chef really brought out the best of the fish. The large amount of lemon potato that came with it looked like a sauce or soup, but had the texture of thick potato purée and tasted pretty creamy. I liked it, but it was heavy because of the cream and felt like a lot more than an equivalent amount of mashed potatoes(good if you’re hungry, but didn’t make the dish feel very balanced). The Hawkes Bay lamb scotch fillet was cooked not quite consistently, as a few pieces were medium and some were medium-well. We prefer medium-rare. The stack of cooked veggies that came with it was juicy and flavorful, though. For desserts, the crème brulee was PERFECT and using manuka honey instead of sugar meant it was less sweet, which we preferred. The jasmine infused pineapple with coconut three ways was really nice to eat slowly and enjoy all the different flavors and textures… I quite liked the chewy coconut biscuits, especially when soaked in the juice at the bottom. Overall, really enjoyed our dining experience there. The waitress and chef were really nice to have a chat with on the quiet evening. The dishes were really well priced for the quality, even without a voucher. We’ll definitely head back at some point. I want to give them a 4.5, but will round up in this case.
