Urge

I have been going to Urge since this bar opened, the current owners have put so much time and energy to the community and into the bar. Anyone is welcome here even though it is known as a bear bar. Definitely the place to visit if you are in Auckland. Even though I don’t live in Auckland any more I still consider it my local.

A female first to review Urge Bar? This doesn’t seem right. Oh well!
Urge Bar is a K’Road institution — a lively and sweaty haven for one particular section of the gay community, the bears. Bears are among the friendliest bunch of the community and just as the name suggests — they’re cuddly, welcoming and furry!
Urge Bar is famous for its regular events like Underware, and its annual events like Bear New Zealand Week and Mr Urge Bear. The hottest and most hirsute jostle for space in this tiny bar on its busiest nights, which would explain why every scene photo from this place is of a shirtless man. (Well, I’m sure that’s one explanation!) If you’re new in town or new to the community and want to see if the bear’s life is for you, go in and see Alan, Paul and the gang. They’re the loveliest guys on the planet… even when an old Goldilocks like me wants to poke her nose in on the bears.
