Ummmm no. Sorry Valentines, but no. I haven’t been here for a wee while, but a friend recently went and gave me the same feedback as I had expected and experience the last time I went. Valentines is a buffet style place. Buffets to me have always screamed cheap, and this is no exception. The food is bland and has that look of being there a wee while. I remember being excited to go as a child for family dinners or for friends’ birthday parties, and I think I always enjoyed it. I think when you’re younger, the idea of getting as much food as you like and getting it for yourself was pretty exciting. Obviously there are massive amounts of food and dessert as well, so that’s a plus I suppose. But it is quite expensive for what you get. The best part about the place is that you dine free on your birthday — if that’s not an indication of what kind of place this is then I don’t know what is. I won’t be going back.

Everything about me shouts that I should be Valentines’ favourite customer, yet everything they do stops me from returning. When I eat out, I’m more likely to order three starters than one main dish, because I love to try a variety of dishes. And the set up at Valentines really appeal to me, it is just the food that is below standard. Maybe my standard, but what’s wrong with setting the bar high? It’s not as if they are selling themselves as a budget restaurant. For what we paid, I expected more, and I expected better. Maybe the hype is the biggest problem, and I’m sure as a family restaurant it is not bad. But I prefer fine dining, and that I’m getting elsewhere.
