A genuine whiskey bar. Staff were passionate about their craft. Great place to chill to 10ish then becomes a great party with seemingly good ponsonby people.

Ok, the rating for this place can change depending on what you are looking for — if you want to dance the night away, with a young hip crowd, then avoid this place like the plague! If you want a lot of beer on tap, or a large wine list, again this is not the place for you. However, if you want to enjoy some good whiskey in a small bar, then this is the place for you. As the name clearly indicates this is a whiskey bar, and the unlike a lot of other whiskey bars, the bartenders here know their stuff, and are willing not only to share their knowledge, but assist you in trying something new, old, or all together different. I have to admit the best thing about this place, was how friendly everyone was. This is one of the few places that I can actually say, that even the bouncer was extremely friendly. I was new to Auckland, and everyone person was instantly giving me tips and advice on what to do and what to see. To the point, the bartender wrote me out a list of the sites I have to see, and other bars that I have to try. It was a great night out, with extremely friendly people and awesome whisky!

There is nothing wrong with Whiskey. Just the times I have been there, there has been noone else there. Perhaps a reflection of the odd hours I choose to socialise rather than the bar itself? The range of drinks is excellent especially if you like, you guessed it, Whiskey. Décor is nice, everything is nice, there is just noone there on a Tuesday, Wednesday, many days of the week when I have ventured in or past. I’ve heard they have live music or DJs from time to time so that should liven the place up, as would the weekend crowds.

This little venue came into focus during NZ music month last year, when Ruby Frost was playing as part of a series of shows put on all around the city. The place itself is pretty tiny, but full of atmosphere, and was a great place for the live music, getting you up close and intimate with the artists. There are a couple of rooms down the hall for more private gatherings, and when we were there Vodafone had a second bar and lounge areas set up in the carpark out back in huge tents, which was very cool too!
