I came here just the once wasn’t all that impressed with what I got. I love a good roast, I always got one bang on at 1pm on Sunday when I was young in Ireland. When I lived in the UK as a adult, I always made a point of having a Sunday roast in the pub while I read the papers. I know you are not likely to get amazing food in a mall food court but the meat was a bit tough and the roast potatoes were hard. The gravy was a winner mind you but it could not overcome the shortcomings of the meal. The Yorkshire pud was ok but it was so long since I had the real thing that I can hardly tell a good one from a bad one. If I am hungry in the mall, I tend to go for sushi — it’s a far lighter meal and is obviously a lot more healthy.

I love a good roast. And I love that this roast shop is right next to the sushi place. I mean honestly, the sushi just can’t compete with the amazingly good roasts at the Yorksire Roast shop. It’s perfect on a wintery night when you’re craving a hearty meal but have no intentions of getting in the kitchen. They’re dripping with gravy, flavour and crackling. It’s enough to cause an early death I know but I love it every now and again. They also have loads of yummy potatoes, pumpkin and peas that are actually swallowable. And of course who could forget the delicious treat they’re named after, the beloved Yorkshire pudding. Mmmmmm. They are amazing and soak up all that gravy. Wow, I feel a lot like Homer Simpson talking about this food. But I guess if you went there, you’d understand where I’m coming from.

I am so stoked I found this place, tucked away in a corner of the Westfield mall in Albany. I can now have a proper English roast dinner any day of the week and given to me in a matter of seconds. Heaven! Yorkshire Roasts have everything you could want out of a roast place: a great selection of meats, crispy, golden roast potatoes, kumara and some of the nicest gravy I’ve tasted! The prices range from a small meal for $ 9, a medium one for $ 11 and a large for $ 15, so it’s really great if you want a meal at lunchtime but don’t want to be overly full, or just depending on the size of your appetite. For me though, the best part is the Yorkshire puddings. I’m obsessed with their battery goodness, and these ones could rival my mums in terms of size and flavour. They also have roast meat sandwiches if you don’t want a full meal(but I always do!) and their extras start at around 70c, so it’s really good value.
