Went to yuzu last night and it was great as in all the other comments I could have read! The place does not look like much from the outside, but inside it is a very cosy Japanese restaurant. The rolls are huge and very tasty. The rice is done to perfection. Ended up 57 $ for 2 and we could not finish everything…

Yuzu, what a treat! Super fresh & fast, just as Japanese should be! Their edamame beans are served w a decent sprinkle of salt and on our table, lashings of soy sauce. The sashimi is fresh to death and cut with such precision. For mains we usually either go the sizzling plate or my new favourite, the bibimbap — seriously the best! Always service with a smile, always bustling with loyal locals — it’s everything you want in a casual Japanese eatery.

Yuzu is one of my favourite weekly dinner spots. It’s usually quite busy but i always manage to get a seat. Jane the woman who runs it is a huge part of why I’ve given Yuzu 5 stars. She is so lovely, and smiley, her service style is really cool and she always says hello and goodbye. The food is really good. The new special sashimi is amazing, tuna or kingfish with a grapefruit dressing. All the sushi is great, so are the sizzling plates. The Karaage chicken is succulent and juicy and the coating has actual cornflakes. My boyfriend and i always order way too much as its so hard to choose! There are a few Korean dishes that have snuck their way in there as Jane is Korean. The bimbimap is really yummy, I love anything with a fried egg on top! This place is BYO, i think it’s a really cute date spot.

I would pop into Yuzu to grab take away sushi once a week religiously, as they have some of the yummiest teriyaki chicken and Katsu chicken sushi made to go I have ever sampled. Such a cute café, located right next to Chapel on Ponsonby road, and always popular at lunch time, when the booths all fill up with couples and friends. The lovely lady always has a smile at the counter, and I have promised myself time and again that I must return for a sit down dinner meal. Yuzu seats probably around 40 people so does have a good seating capacity, and the menu shows that it’s not just a stop in takeaway, but more a restaurant with a wide selection of Japanese delicacies, even including oysters and special sauce, or green tea ice cream for dessert. Nicely located among the popular clubs and bars of Ponsonby road, Yuzu is a sure stop in for dinner before you hit the city.

When I used to have a real job, I used to visit Yuzu on the reg. Like, every week. Me and my dad would have father daughter bonding sessions over cornflake-covered karaage chicken and salmon sashimi. My brother would get the Bibimbap, which is not actually Japanese but, you know. It’s a small restaurant, but it’s cosy and there is this lovely Korean waitress who is just the nicest ever. The food is pretty good, it’s well priced and there’s a huge variety. It’s mainly Japanese, there are lunch and dinner box options, and this big meal for two that you can get, filled with sushi and sashimi and tempura and a whole bunch of other treats that I have never gotten to try because all my friends suck. The chicken udon noodle soup bowl thing is good and you should definitely get it if you’re feeling ill. It’ll cheer you right up.

Nestled in to a small one unit frontage on the East side of Ponsonby Road and popular with the locals, Yuzu offers a great selection of sushi and Asian mains. I tried some sushi to start and then had a chicken main course. I wish I had stuck to sushi throughout as it was of much higher quality that the fried chicken main which was average meat coated in what looked like corn flakes! The choice of sauces in an Asian restaurant was a little confusing, mayonnaise, tomato ketchup and brown(‘HP’ type) was a shock. I was very jealous of one of the mountains of sushi being brought to other tables, if my starter was anything to go by they would have enjoyed a fantastic meal. I found the drinks were expensive relative to the excellent value food but in keeping with the surrounding area. It was a unique touch to walk through the kitchen to get to the toilet too!
