Good food. Poor & very very slow service. At one point we walked to another waiter to ask for water. After initial order we didn’t see our waiter for nearly 30min. Maybe our waiter was having a bad day or kitchen had issues, but seemed a number of tables had issues.

Nice spot in Matakana for a casual meal or drink. Lovely outdoor area with fireplace and beer garden. Have previously been here in summer but just has my first winter visit — nice sitting outside in front of the open log fire.

Haven’t been back since it was re modeled but really impressed with the layout and ambiance. We went late afternoon so very nice to sit outside in the sun but also plenty of shade if wanted. We were a bit worried about how crowded it was but it didn’t take long to get a booth. The local lager on tap was very nice and also a great wine selection. Good selection of tapas food and good main menu also with very generous portions. Will definitely go back

Liberty Ale on tap as guest beer; very nice, as expected from Liberty! The décor here is comfy and charmingly odd(host paintings), and the fire outside offers nice ambience. The kofta was okay – not at all bad, but not great, either; not bland but not flavorful enough; at least, that’s my take :) Fat fries were satisfying, and the coleslaw was good, I was told. Waitress was keen on talking up good beers, not just up-selling, and that’s good.

Went to the Matakana Village Pub for the first time over New Year 2014. We had a lovely afternoon sitting outside with some beers and casual food. The menu has all the usual things you’d expect from a pub but was all well presented and tasted great. The service was efficient and friendly. Will definitely be back on the next trip to Omaha.

I really enjoyed coming to the Matakana. We came here with some friends who suggested it, there were 4 adults and 3 kids. Its a nice place to bring kids as it has the nice open area out the front and they can run around a little bit after they have had something to eat and while the adults finish of their beer or wine. The service is really good, the waiter who served us that day was great. The menu isn’t huge but it was good enough to feed us, we had the beef cheeseburger which comes with very yummy fries and the char-grilled lamb fillet. We also did find the menu a little expensive for pub food considering some of the small plates are $ 18, never mind we were on holiday and I suppose they get away with it. However its a great pub and I will go back for sure next time we are in the area

The Matakana… they dropped the ‘house’, gave it a major spruce up and she sure looks good. Built in 1903, The Matakana has had a long life; first as a lodge and then a brothel. But for as long as I can remember it’s been ‘The Pub’ and was the only watering hole in Matakana for a long while. It’s been recently restyled to keep up with the rest of the village; but still has that country pub feel. The large outdoor area has loads of tables and is brilliant for sitting in the sun and people watching. They have a good range of local beer and cider, and wine on tap! I’ve not ventured passed the ‘Fat Chips with Aioli’, but the rest of the menu seems decent; with the likes of fish n chips, burgers and steak. They usually have live music on Friday and Saturday nights and it can get quite busy. Sunday sessions are my favourite though; perfect for that cruisey drink on the way home from the beach.
