Great pies but unfortunately the staff isn’t very friendly.

I am a big fan of this bakery — in particular, their bacon quiches. They are amazing — just the right consistency, with a thick, crispy crust, and they are huge. I can barely polish one off for lunch! They also have a huge range of sweet pastries, ranging from cakes, doughnuts, slices, eclairs, biscuits, danishes etc. So good. They are also very reasonably priced — my husband and I usually get a hot food item each, plus a treat to share and two coffees, and it comes to around $ 15. The only very minor quibble I have is that sometimes the staff are not very friendly, and don’t often check whether you’re eating in or taking away(resulting in trying to eat a quiche out of a paper bag instead of a plate) but I put that down to the fact it’s often quite busy in there and they’re in a rush.

I was in Auckland for a few days and had lunch here after climbing Mt. Eden. I ordered a mince and cheese pie and a flat white, and sat outside. The pie was delicious, and the flat white was the best I had during my whole trip. I drank one every day, so that’s saying something! The café might not look like much, but I was really happy with my meal. The staff was nice and the order didn’t take too long to arrive.

Why this bakery has felt the need to add«Paris» to their name is beyond me, other than the fact that they are in Mt Eden and this would make them look trendier. They do stock some e’clair, mille feuille and baguette but all in all this is just a bakery. And as far as bakeries go *Mt Eden Barkey is below average. Burnt looking pies, over priced sandwiches, rude service, and no delicious bakery aromas. One type of focaccia bread(Italian) and covered in cheese. The interior looks like the living room in a converted villa, and not in a nice, quaint way. If they wanted to sound posh they could have called themselves a «dépôt de pain», because I’m almost certain they dont bake their own bread.

This place used to be great, one of my fave bakeries actually. Then I think it must have changed owners because it turned into something not so great. It doesn’t have the lovely french delights that it used to offer, and it is always understocked these days. The food doesn’t reflect the name at all, they only seem to sell pies and sammies and they aren’t very tasty. It’s a shame because this place has a lot of potential, it’s in a great location with really good street parking, but sadly now it’s just a shadow of it’s former self.

I recently popped into Paris Mt Eden Bakery because I needed a couple of baguettes for dinner. I chose the bigger of the two versions on offer, at $ 3.50 each they were soft and doughy inside and just enough crunch on the outside for satisfy family at dinnertime. Bringing a slice of France into the village, this little bakery had a nice range of patisseries on show as well as bakery filled rolls and pies. Coffee to your order. If you are not rushing in like me with a quick purchase, there are tables with some seating outside.

We call it ‘The Green Bakery’. Not a particularly imaginative name considering the exterior of the establishment is painted a rich forest shade, but it’s effective. Ask any Mount Eden local where The Green Bakery is and they’ll be able to point you right to that spot on Mount Eden Road between the Belgian beer café and the optometrist. Do not be fooled by that relatively new paint job — this is no fancy pants spot, just a good old fashioned baked goods retailer with no frills. The Green Bakery is where you grab a roll, a good caramel slice, or even better, a great pie(the chicken and mushroom is a winner) to go. I dare you to resist eating it straight out of the paper bag before you get home. Near impossible.
