Exposed wooden beams create a comfy organic vibe in this simple nice Japanese restaurant. I had the lunch box special that came with potato salad and fried chicken. At $ 15.00 was good value. Very nice people and great service.

I love this place, one of my favorite Japanese places to eat at in New Zealand The food is amazing and fresh The staff is wonderful… Konichi-wa Ai-san I tried most things on their menu but my favorite is beef tataki, shrimp tempura and all of their sashimi Beautiful presentation, all food is soooo fresh… its not that cheap but this place makes me happy… give it a try, it is real Japanese, delicious

Though there are plenty of Japanese restaurants in Auckland, there aren’t a lot of great ones on the Shore. Kyo Ya is one of the few goodies, and has become my go-to for a Japanese fix. The restaurant is very simple, but i kinda like it like that. It’s casual and relaxed. As you enter Kyo Ya, pretty much all the staff yell ‘Ohayoooo!’ «It’s really cute. The $ 25 special is a really good meal. It’s got a bit of everything and it’s all tasty. The kitchen is open which creates a cool atmosphere. Sit up at the bar and watch the chefs at work or take a seat at one of the solid wooden tables. The service is really good, and they try their best to accommodate you even on the busy nights. Handy to many other great bars, it would bne a good place to start the night or just to pop in for a quick meal.

I shared a Kyo-ya Special between two, which was fresh, tasty and nicely presented. With a shortage of excellent Japanese restaurants on the Shore I would probably come here again if I was looking for a casual dining experience close to home. There is just a lack of atmosphere and«wow» factor with the food however it is a lovely place with good service and very handy to the beautiful Takapuna beach. Even on a busy night such as a Friday Kyo-ya is popular but you can probably still get a walk-in table, another bonus opposed to facing the crowds in town.
