Went for lunch with my girlfriend missed the day service for Yum Cha so ordered off the menu. Host/Manager not into small talk, basically just pointed me to our seats. Main waitress not interested in welcoming us or taking our order, palmed us off on a young trainee. Young girl seemed in a rush and couldn’t answer our questions aboutt the menu. Some last Yum Cha offered, the staff this time were friendly which we appreciated, food was slightly cold and no mention of price. Mains came, a few dishes, girl wasn’t 100% sure if what was ours. Average dumplings, some were good others we couldn’t eat. Finally finished, host man once again quite rude, wouldn’t answer me when I asked for«the bill» just said the price. Eneded up paying a «fortune» for those extra dishes, total $ 57 for lunch. Very disappointed with what they’ve done with the old Britainia location, wouldn’t go again.

This is probably the least busy yum char place that I have been to in Auckland during a weekday. That can both be good and bad. Good because they don’t have to turn the table for the next group that’s already waiting at the door. Bad because I have to question if everything is made fresh today. For today though. I ordered my usual selection of yum char musts. And the beef tripe is probably the most flavourful that I have had in Auckland. That been said, everything else were all just on par with everywhere else. The price is also very reasonable. I am sorry that I can’t give you a breakdown, because I don’t even know what they cost individually. Lol. But I paid $ 38 for a mix of 7 yum char items. So it works out to be 5 and a bit per? And if you know yum char, then that’s 1 top, 3 large and 3 medium selections.

With the limited options available in Auckland for yum cha /dim sum this one is probably one of the good ones around. Situation in Takapuna although it is slightly further away from the city, it makes parking so much easier. The selection of dim sum available is pretty wide. There’s a variety to cater for everyone. I loved the chicken feet(yes I said chicken feet!!), spare ribs, custard tarts, shrimp dumpling, port dumplings etc. So yum. You have to try chicken feet if you are going to yum cha. Be adventure, there’s nothing to loose! don’t think about it! just EAT it! The restaurant is quite spacious and is a nice environment for a Saturday lunch. Unlike other ones in the City and one in Alexandra Park, Greenlane, Auckland — this one DOESNOT kick you out of the table when your hour is up. So thumb up from me!
